Manchester United's latest statement regarding Mason Greenwood: Key points
The forward has not played for Manchester United since 2022
Mason Greenwood’s career continues to be up in the air, Manchester United have released a new statement regarding the forward’s future.
High-ranking United executives claimed the team had intended to make public the findings of a six-and-a-half-month inquiry into Greenwood prior to the start of the season, but they postponed the release.
Allegations against Mason Greenwood, 21, were dropped, according to a February 2 press release from Greater Manchester Police. Charges against Greenwood included attempted rape, using forceful or controlling behaviours, and assault. He consistently refuted all accusations.
Since January 22, 2022, Greenwood has not appeared in games for United, and he has not joined the team’s training sessions either. Richard Arnold, the CEO, will make the final choice regarding Greenwood.
On Wednesday, it was said that Arnold had informed senior staff that Greenwood would be making a comeback; according to The Athletic, a declaration was expected at the beginning of August.
However, United claim that a final decision has not yet been made in a statement that was simultaneously issued on the club’s official website.
In an announcement issued on Wednesday afternoon, United said:

“This has drawn on extensive evidence and context not in the public domain, and we have heard from numerous people with direct involvement or knowledge of the case.
“Throughout this process, the welfare and perspective of the alleged victim has been central to the club’s inquiries, and we respect her right to lifelong anonymity.
“We also have responsibilities to Mason as an employee, as a young person who has been with the club since the age of seven, and as a new father with a partner.
“The fact-finding phase of our investigation is now complete, and we are in the final stages of making a decision on Mason’s future.
“Contrary to media speculation, that decision has not yet been made and is currently the subject of intensive internal deliberation. Responsibility ultimately rests with the Chief Executive Officer.
“Once made, the decision will be communicated and explained to the club’s internal and external stakeholders.
“This has been a difficult case for everyone associated with Manchester United, and we understand the strong opinions it has provoked based on the partial evidence in the public domain. We ask for patience as we work through the final stages of this carefully considered process.”
