Liverpool’s 6 man midfield shortlist after missing out on Caicedo and Lavia
The Reds are hoping to add defensive midfielder before transfer window closes
As they search for new players, Liverpool have placed Fulham star Joao Palhinha at the very top of an initial list of six candidates for the midfield position.
Prior to the close of the transfer window, Jurgen Klopp is in severe need of midfield reinforcements. The Ecuadorian had an agreement with the Reds at Brighton, but Moises Caicedo ended up going to Chelsea instead.
Romeo Lavia’s transfer to the Blues for a reported sum of more than £50 million appears to be headed in the same direction. This limits Liverpool’s options as they look to sign a player.
However, Klopp has compiled a thorough shortlist of candidates for hire. According to MailOnline, six possibilities are being taken into consideration.
According to rumours, Fulham player Joao Palhinha is among the most preferred. Following his transfer from Sporting Lisbon, the Portuguese star starred for Marco Silva’s team this past season.

Earlier this summer, West Ham were rumoured to be interested in signing him, but instead, they pounced on Southampton ace James Ward-Prowse. Palhinha apparently has a price tag of £60 million or more from Fulham, and it is unclear when Liverpool are ready to shell out that much.
They have another choice, which is also anticipated to be expensive. Cheick Doucoure of Crystal Palace has been taken into consideration, although the Eagles are asking for roughly £70 million for the former Lens midfielder.
There are plenty of other prospects who had been under consideration who might move to Anfield after the transfer window closes. Klopp had previously shown admiration for Kalvin Phillips, and the Reds have been rumoured to resume their pursuit of the Manchester City player.
Also mentioned as possibly leaving Fiorentina for Merseyside is Sofyan Amrabat. Due to strong rival Manchester United’s pursuit of him, Liverpool will have their work cut out for them in trying to secure his services.
