Lucas Paqueta move to Manchester City on verge of collapse
The Brazilian midfielder joined West Ham United in 2022
There are rumours that the proposed sale of Lucas Paqueta to Manchester City will fall through. According to renowned transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, talks regarding the triple champions and West Ham United have reportedly come to a standstill.
Pep Guardiola’s team made an earlier offer for the Brazilian playmaker, thought to be valued at approximately £70 million, but has so far been unable to secure the 25-year-old.
Considering the loss of Declan Rice, who left for Arsenal for £105 million at the beginning of the summer transfer window, the Hammers are obviously eager to cling onto Paqueta.
The Londoners’ position may also not come as a surprise; the South American midfielder has a maximum of five years remaining on his contract, giving the club a strong negotiating position.
And although though there were recent rumours that the Londoners might try to sign Cole Palmer as a swap for Paqueta, with the transaction now in danger of falling through, it seems reasonable to assume that both stars will stay with their respective teams for the upcoming 2023–24 season.

West Ham will compete with City for Jeremy Doku, who has also been mentioned in connection with City. Doku, though, is unlikely to be able to contribute as much to City as Paqueta and Olmo could.
When it was revealed that Kevin De Bruyne would be missing a significant amount of time, Pep Guardiola’s team suffered a serious setback.
For City’s opening-day match against Burnley, De Bruyne, who walked out of the Champions League final last season due to injury, was reinstated in the starting XI.
Dani Olmo of RB Leipzig has been further linked to City, and the German team has already done business with City during the summer transfer window.
Olmo would demand a big transfer fee, and rumours claim Leipzig are reluctant to move two top players in the same transfer window.
