Manchester City agree personal terms with Jeremy Doku; West Ham attempting to hijack deal
The 21-year-old Belgian has been on City’s radar for quite some time.
Jeremy Doku joined Ligue 1 side Rennes in 2020 and has been earmarked as someone with huge potential and a bright future ahead. Doku plays as a winger, and has shown excellence in many attributes like pace, dribbling, and creativity within the box.
The 21-year-old currently holds the record for most dribbles completed in a Ligue 1 game, with 12. Doku signed for Rennes in 2020 for an impressive sum of €26m for a then 18-year-old. He remains the most expensive signing in the club’s history.
Jeremy Doku has attracted a lot of attention lately because of his exploits in Ligue 1. A lot of it has come from Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. After Riyad Mahrez’s departure following the end of the last season, the treble winners have been in the market for a winger who can be a quick fix in the Man City frontline and can serve at The Etihad for a long time. An attacking forward will be more useful now then ever following midfield maestro Kevin De Bruyne’s expected to be out for three to four months following an injury.

The Cityzens have wasted no time in making efforts to materialize the deal. Reports have suggested that they have already agreed on personal terms with the Belgian forward and now negotiations with his current club Rennes are set to begin. Rennes are valuing the forward at €50m.
It is reported that Man City’s valuation of the youngster currently falls short of that. However, negotiations are in full swing. Sources close to the player have suggested that the Belgian himself is keen to move to The Etihad.
However, reports have emerged that another Premier League side West Ham United are interested in the forward as well. They have submitted a late undisclosed verbal offer to Rennes in an attempt to hijack the deal. West Ham are yet to discuss terms with the player or submit a formal bid.
However, reports suggest they have managed to get Rennes’s attention who are adamant on their valuation of €50m. After thinning their frontline by losing Declan Rice to Arsenal, The Hammers need to bulk up their frontline.
It will be difficult to sway the youngster away from The Etihad as he is very keen on the move. However, if the Hammers are able to present lucrative numbers to both the player and the club, they might be able to change the scenario.
