Manchester City eye RB Leipzig's Dani Olmo as potential Kevin De Bruyne heir

The 25-year-old’s electrifying form has attracted attention from Pep Guardiola’s side.
RB Leipzig midfielder Dani Olmo has been in electrifying form. He ended the last season on a high and has started this season with a bang. In just two games so far, he has scored four times, including a match winning brace against Bayern München in the DFK Super Cup final. His brace against Bayern earned him a player of the match award and left the scoreline at 3-0 at the end of the game.
Manchester City have registered interest in the young Spanish midfielder. City manager Pep Guardiola has long been an admirer of the midfielder’s talent, labelling him “world class” and “a real prospect”.
His interest in him may be more justified now than ever as Man City’s star midfielder and Talisman Kevin De Bruyne is out with injury and is not expected to return before the start of the next year. Dani Olmo’s arrival at Etihad could give the Cityzens an immediate and short-term solution to fill the glaring hole left due to De Bruyne’s injury induced absence.

Apart from being an immediate solution, Dani Olmo could also potentially be a long-time partner to De Bruyne and possibly his successor at The Etihad.
As far as finances are concerned, Olmo’s contract at RB Leipzig is scheduled to run out during next year’s summer, and his release clause is valued at €60m. Meaning he will be allowed to leave if any other club matches that price.
Although him leaving this summer is highly unlikely, he is currently valued at €68m in the transfer market.
However, the biggest roadblock to his move to The Etihad is Olmo’s consent himself. When asked about the move, he spoke to German newspaper Blid:
“There is nothing! I’m fully focused on the task in Leipzig, the Bundesliga, the UCL and the Cup. Man City are a big club — one of the biggest in the world. Josko [Gvardiol] went there. But I’m happy here.”
