Manchester City vs Newcastle United: Predicted lineup, injury news, head-to-head, telecast
The Magpies and the Sky Blues are all set to battle out in a thrilling encounter
Manchester City and Newcastle United, both are off to a flying start in the new Premier League season. While Pep Guardiola’s side defeated the newcomers Burnley 3-0, the Black and Whites thrashed Aston Villa 5-1. Now, both the Middle-East-owned clubs are set to take on each other at the Etihad.
The Cityzens followed their opening day league victory with the win against Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup. After missing out on an early silverware of Community, this would have been a blessing in disguise. Shrugging off the defeat against Arsenal on Wembley, City went on to win the Super Cup 5-4 on penalties.
As for Eddie Howe and Newcastle, well, it seems they have picked up right from where they left last season. The midfield flowing, the attack is scoring and the defence is a wall! It all seems too perfect to be true up there in Tyne. In the 5-1 victory, the fans got to witness the debutants Sandro Tonali and Harvey Barnes open their accounts for the new club. As well as an Isak brace, alongside a cherry on the cake with a Wilson goal.
Kick-off
Saturday 19th August 8:00 PM GMT (Sunday 20th August 12:30 AM IST)
Location: Etihad Stadium
Form
Manchester City (in all comps): W-W-L-W-W
Newcastle United (in all comps): D-W-W-W-W
Players to watch
Erling Haaland (Manchester City)
Just do not take your eyes off the Norwegian Viking aka Erling Haaland. He does not need multiple touches to open his account for the game. Meanwhile, he has already started this Premier League season with an opening-day brace. The goalscoring record might be at his beckoning yet again, as he looks even more fresh to take on the ‘rugged’ English football than last year. If that is the case then it is safe to assume that he is set to break his own record of most goals scored in a PL season.
Callum Wilson (Newcastle United)
Picking Alexander Isak was too obvious of a choice, given his fiery form. But Callum Wilson is the one who is getting shadowed, despite being a striker in the team. The Englishman has not looked shy to pop in a few of his own goals here and there, since the Swede’s arrival. However, it is important to note that Wilson plays a key role in the attack of Howe’s game plan in Newcastle. Since last season, Wilson has scored a goal every 100 minutes, while Haaland scored every 75 minutes. Making him the second to the best striker in the league right now and it speaks volumes.

Injury & Team News Manchester for City vs Newcastle United
Months after the Champions League final injury woe, Kevin De Bruyne hurt his hamstring again during the win against Burnley. He’ll need about three to four months to recover and won’t be playing. But Cole Palmer has been doing well as a replacement. John Stones and Ruben Dias are back in the squad as well. While Bernardo Silva will likely play again after being sick. Pep will surely turn to the bench for a couple of rotations.
Newcastle doesn’t have new injury worries after their 5-1 win. Emil Krafth, Joe Willock, and Javier Manquillo are still injured. They probably wouldn’t have played in the main team anyway. Newcastle’s manager, Howe, will probably stick with this lot who were rampant last weekend. Barnes did well in his debut for Newcastle, so he might challenge Gordon. Wilson scored as a substitute, and so did the in-form Isak. Fans will be anticipating a front three of Isak, Wilson, and Barnes.

Match prediction for Manchester City vs Newcastle United
The match so goals galore a year ago. And a similar fun game can be expected again this weekend. When Howe’s Newcastle, known for scoring goals, gets inspired by watching Sevilla‘s strong attack in the Super Cup.
Man City might struggle because they’re tired from their midweek game and De Bruyne won’t be playing. But even with some changes in their starting XI, Pep’s side will come out as victors. But only just. Man City should still have more strength to score against Newcastle since their defence isn’t as tough as it used to be.
Prediction: Manchester City 3-2 Newcastle United
