Chelsea Manchester City and Barcelona were interested in signing the Spanish youngster

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Napoli have agreed to sign Gabri Viega worth €36m from Celta Vigo amidst interest from Chelsea, Manchester City and Barcelona.

The teenage player would transfer to the reigning Italian Serie A champions for €35 million, with personal terms of €2.2 million per season.

Viega entered the game after the final whistle in Sunday’s 2-0 loss against Osasuna for Celta. The 21-year-old was previously linked to Manchester United, Manchester City, and Liverpool, among other clubs in the Premier League.

Over the past few months, a number of major teams have been connected with the promising Celta Vigo midfielder. Liverpool were rumoured to be quite interested, but it now appears that they were passed over.

For a midfielder with his years, the 21-year-old’s performance for Celta last season, which included 11 goals and four assists, was very good. His transfer to a bigger team this summer was all but guaranteed, but it will not be Liverpool.

Veiga was strongly linked with a switch to the Reds, but Jurgen Klopp is currently more interested in a number six than he is in a different attack-minded midfielder.

They presumably opted against submitting a signing offer for Veiga because their need for him was diminished as a result.

According to The Guardian, the Chelsea manager personally requested that the club arrange a transfer for Veiga, but it appears that he may no longer require the midfielder at Stamford Bridge.

Since then, the Blues have signed Caicedo and Lesley Ugochukwu, and Lavia is anticipated to be the next player they sign.
