The Belgian striker is unsettled at Chelsea

Roma are leading the race to sign Romelu Lukaku. According to reports, the representatives of the Italian side are in direct talks with the clubs.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Roma’s director and club owner are in direct contact with the English club. They are in London to discuss a possible loan deal and the player’s salary.

Jose Mourinho’s side is the third Italian club to approach Chelsea about signing the Belgian striker. Inter Milan were the favourites to land the out-of-favour player. However, the deal didn’t go through, and Lukaku’s future remained unsettled.

Juventus came in next, but they were also unable to sign the striker. It was also reported that the 30-year-old forward rejected a £45 million-per-year offer from a Saudi club.

Romelu Lukaku has been unsettled ever since his move back to the Blues. The Belgian forward was loaned out to Inter last summer. Lukaku led Inter Milan to the Serie A title in 2020-21.

Chelsea signed him the following season. He scored 13 goals in all competitions, with eight coming in the Premier League. Last season on loan at Inter, the 30-year-old netted 14 goals. The Nerrazzuri played in the Champions League final against Manchester City.

Roma are in direct contact with the club and could seal a possible deal. Chelsea wants to offload the player, but looking at the current scenario, it will be better to strike a good loan deal with Jose Mourinho’s team. Lukaku is under contract until 2026. The Blues have a couple of seasons to sell him.

Chelsea won their first match of the 2023-24 campaign. A 3-0 win against Luton was a confidence booster for Mauricio Pochettino’s men. Raheem Sterling scored a brace and created another for Nicolas Jackson. Lukaku is not training with the first team.
