The biggest event of Premier League’s Matchday 2

The post-Harry Kane era in the Premier League resulted in a 2-2 draw for Tottenham Hotspur. Kane used to tally approximately 30 goals for Spurs around every year. But the new manager Ange Postecoglou has quickly convinced the fans that they can look ahead. A total of 638 passes were recorded in the opening game where they netted twice in the first half itself. Although Brentford levelled the game during that time alone, the manager seemingly passed on his method very quickly to the team.

Manchester United on the other side were able to get all three points in their opening game for the 2023-24 season. Centre-back Raphel Varane rose to the occasion to meet a header in the 76′ minute which eventually helped the side win by a narrow margin of 1-0. United’s attackers were kept silent throughout the game and the scary part was the number of times their opponents attempted a shot against their defence. A total of 23 shots were attempted by visiting side Wolves. This might sound like music to the ears of Tottenham base.

Kick-Off:

Saturday, 19 August 2023 at 5:30 PM BST (10 PM IST)

Tottenham Hotspur (in all competitions): D-L-W-W-L

Manchester United (in all competitions): W-D-W-L-L

Players to Watch

James Maddison (Tottenham Hotspur)

Tottenham Hotspur fans already know what the new signing James Maddison brings to the table. Maddison moved back to the Premier League by accepting Spurs’ offer after relegated side Leicester City accepted £40 million. In his Premier League debut against Brentford on matchday 1 for The Lilywhites, Maddison won a freekick by the 9′ minute mark which he took and grabbed an assist as centre-back Cristian Romero headed it in. He added another assist later in the game as well. Manager Ange Postecoglou will be pleased with the centre attacking midfielder who is also the vice-captain of his side. He will be the one to watch for Spurs.

Mason Mount (Manchester United)

The new number 7 for Manchester United didn’t come cheap. A fee of £60 million including substantial add-ons of £5 million was negotiated with Chelsea for Mason Mount. Mount had only a year to run on his contract. So, the move actually caused several eyebrows to raise given the sum United spent on the English midfielder.

But the player could really grow under Erik ten Hag given he is only 24. Mount has vast experience across the English league after being associated with Chelsea for 18 years since his youth time. The Red Devils have handed great responsibilities by handing the legendary number 7 and Mount will want to rise to the challenge like once a teenager named Cristiano Ronaldo did.

Match Prediction for Tottenham vs Manchester United

This game between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United is the biggest event for matchday 2 of the 2023-24 Premier League season. The match will be tightly contested between both sides. Spurs will be looking to get the first win for this season under their belt at home, while the Red Devils will want a better display of attack. United had a poor final third display from their attacking department and Spurs side managed by Ange Postecoglou could be more than what the Red Devils can handle at the moment.

Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 Manchester United
