Why are Juventus and Inter Milan fans angry at Romelu Lukaku?

The thirty-year-old Belgian national is currently in the midst of an aggressive transfer saga.

Romelu Lukaku is currently out of favors with all the clubs he is associated with. He is currently contracted with Chelsea. However, when he arrived at Stamford Bridge for what was to be his second stint there, he was informed that he was not a part of Chelsea’s plans going forward and was quickly loaned out to Inter Milan for the season. He found some success while playing for the Nerraruzzi.

Apart from what many have called a hall of shame performance in the Champions League final, he was favoured by both the fans and team management. After his loan stint at the San Siro ended, he himself stated in various interviews that he would love to stay at Inter Milan and would love to continue his career at the San Siro. However, a wrench in his wishes to stay at the San Siro came when Chelsea refused to sanction another loan agreement for him.

Chelsea wanted to sell the striker to be able to recoup some of the £97.5m they invested in him. They wanted to secure a price tag of at least £40m.

However, Inter’s mind about signing him changed when it was revealed that he was in talks to sign for bitter rivals Juventus. After this revelation, it is reported that Inter director Piero Ausilio harshly informed Romelu Lukaku that he will not be retained by Inter anymore under any circumstances.

Needless to say, after it was revealed that he was in talks with bitter rivals Juventus after talking about his desire to stay at Inter, the management and fans at the San Siro felt betrayed.

On the other hand, Juventus fans haven’t been looking forward to Lukaku’s arrival either. The Bianconerri have been protesting Lukaku’s arrival since word got out he might play for The Old Lady. In a pre-season game between Juventus and one of their second teams, fans took to the field to protest his arrival with chants like “we don’t want Lukaku”.

Chelsea have made clear that they want to offload him, Inter Milan have completely rescinded their interest in him, and there is a big chance that Juventus might not go ahead with the proposed Vlahovic-Lukaku player swap. And it is not looking like any other side would match the 40m pound price tag Chelsea have attached to him.

At the moment, it looks like Lukaku has lost favors from all his potential suitors, and may not be seen in a Chelsea shirt even though he will be in the squad. His future remains uncertain.
