Wolves reject Manchester City's £47m initial offer for Matheus Nunes
The Cityzens are looking to find replacement for injured De Bruyne
Manchester City made a quick offer of £47 million to Wolves for Matheus Nunes, which was turned down by but the Premier League winners are expected to up their bid.
The Portuguese midfielder is well-admired by Pep Guardiola, who once called him “one of the best players in the world.”
After missing Kevin De Bruyne for about four months following hamstring surgery, Guardiola was required to acquire a midfielder. Wolves would only take into account a significant offer.
Lucas Paqueta was the target of City’s aggressive pursuit, but the West Ham midfielder’s involvement in an alleged betting violation led the club to turn elsewhere.
Matheus Nunes, a record-breaking £42 million acquisition from Sporting by Wolves last summer, will miss Wolves’ trip to Everton on Saturday after receiving a red card in the 4-1 loss to Brighton the previous Saturday.
