Head coach Staikos Vergetis and club captain Luka Majcen shared their views on the fixture earlier today in the pre match press conference conference and here are the best bits of the conversation
Thoughts on the fixture
The Greek coach started off by wishing every team in the ISL and then he went ahead sharing his views on their opposition whom they played in the recently concluded Durand Cup. “I wish a good season for all the clubs. I wish this will be one season where we raise up the (standard) Indian football one or two steps in front, higher. Regarding our game, it’s true that it has been almost one month and a few more than the first game of the teams. We have more weeks of preparation because that period we had only 2 weeks of training that we came to play and Mohun Bagan has the same more weeks and more official games. Both of the teams will be in better condition, that’s why I think that it will be a great process (game).
Captain Luka Majcen too voiced his opinion, “Yeah, it’s been more than a month from that Durand game, so we could check them out more to get ready. So yeah, I think we’re ready. We analyzed everything and we’re looking forward to tomorrow’s match.”

On inclusion of Shankarlal Chakraborty as assistant coach
Shankarlal Chakraborty the former first team coach of Mohun Bagan has recently joined the Punjab FC. Speaking on his inclusion and experience Staikos Vergetis stated, “We are very happy to have him because with his experience, with his knowledge in football, I am sure that he will help us a lot. Already in 2-3 trainings that we have done together, I have seen that he has good quality coaching tips inside of him and I am sure that he is one of the Mohun Bagan. He has been here for many years and for Indian football. And I am sure that he will help us regarding his knowledges about the Indian football.”
On Mohun Bagan strike force
Mohun Bagan Super Giant arguably possess the best attack amongst all the ISL sides. Punjab FC Staikos is very aware of the danger and shared his anecdote to counter the threat, “To be honest, Mubakar have very quality skills offensive players, generally not the lines, but especially in the attack. We have seen them, we have analyzed them, we have given the appropriate instructions to our players have understood the way that they have to face them. If you are out of concentration for one second, maybe you can’t paint that. That’s why I need the maximum concentration of our defenders.”
