The match held special significance as it marked Punjab FC's debut in the ISL, bringing anticipation and excitement to the footballing community.

Although managed to get on the scoreboard with a goal from Luka Majcen, it wasn't enough to mount a comeback.
This fixture was also significant for MBSG as it marked their first ISL match since their name change from ATK Mohun Bagan, and their impressive victory signaled their intent for the season ahead.
Here are the ratings for the game.
Mohun Bagan Super Giant (By Jayjeet Roygupta)
Vishal Kaith - 6
The goalkeeper had a quiet game and remained solid for most of the match. Conceded one goal, but otherwise the performance was reliable.
Anwar Ali - 6.5
A strong performance at the back line. Brought in consistent gameplay and was on his toes throughout the game. Made a good block for the Mariners.
Héctor Yuste - 6.5
A solid presence in MBSG's three-man defense line, the star defender remained active throughout the game. However, the Mariners may have higher expectations from their key defensive player in upcoming matches.
Brendan Hamill 6.6
He maintained a solid defensive presence for most of the match. Additionally performed admirably on his flank, effectively thwarting Punjab's counterattacks.
Anwar Ali - 6
It wasn't one of his best performances, as he occasionally lost possession. His passing could have been more accurate as the player gave away possession for a few times in the midfield.
Glan Martins - 5
It wasn't his best game, as he seemed off-beat and not the most effective option in midfield. However, he displayed strength in aerial duels. Given his quality, there's hope for him to show more conviction in his game.
Sahal Abdul Samad - 7.5
The youngster stood out as the best player in MBSG's midfield, displaying great conviction in his game. His impressive assist for Cummings in the 10th minute highlighted his skill and potential.
Subhasish Bose - 6.5
The MBSG captain delivered an overall solid performance, maintaining his defensive presence. However, there were a few instances where Bose was missing his usual brilliance, whether in terms of keeping possession or contributing to the attack.
Dimitri Petratos - 8
Australian striker showcased his prowess as one of the best players on the pitch, scoring a goal and providing a brilliant assist that exemplified his status as a celebrated striker. Throughout the match, he remained a constant threat and the primary concern for the Punjab defenders.
Liston Colaco - 6.5
Proved to be a valuable asset in the three-man strike line, delivering a commendable assist in the game. However, there were moments when he had the opportunity to provide even more joy to the fans.
Jason Cummings - 8.5
The star Australian World Cup player undoubtedly shone as the best on the field today, making his presence felt with a brilliant early-game finish. His excellent chemistry with Petratos was evident throughout the match.
Substitutes
A. Sadiku - 6
Came onto the pitch in the 69th minute replacing Petratos. Was good in his gameplay but did not add anything substantial to the game.
Hugo Boumous - 6.5
The Frenchmen came in as a substitute for Cummings but was not really able to match up to the magic of him. Was a part of a few good moments.
Manvir Singh - 7
The winger came late into the game replacing Liston. Was truly a super-sub scoring from a assist of Petratos. Overall, had a remarkable performance.
Lalrinliana Hnamte - 6
The midfielder, coming on as a substitute, struggled to make an impact on the game. His presence on the field was largely unnoticed.
Abhishek Suryavanshi - 5.5
Entering the pitch in the 79th minute, he had limited involvement and didn't have much to do during his time on the field.
Roundglass Punjab FC (By Riddhiman Sarkar)
Kiran Limbu - 6
The Nepal national team captain had nothing to do for either goal as Petratos and Cummings exuded sheer dominance but he did manage two high claims and two saves.
Khaimingtham Lungdim - 6.5
Had a commendable game as he stopped goal-scorer Petratos twice in the first half with a tackle and a block and embarked on skilful runs up front. Overall had three successful take-ons, seven duels won out of nine and eight attempted crosses out of which two were spot-on.
Melroy Assisi - 5
After a strong challenge on Liston, he failed to mark the winger’s run as the Punjab defence was left static following his movement into the box. Moreover, he was appalling with his positioning, distribution and with the ball at his feet, losing all of his challenges.
Nikhil Prabhu - 6
Was at fault for failing to track Manvir for his run into the box leading to MBSG’s third goal. Helped off the field afterward as he seemed to have pulled a muscle with Mashoor Shereef taking his place in the 67th minute.
Mohammed Salah - 6.5
Barely got forward and was stuck doing some gritty defending winning his ground duels twice, as he managed only one cross, and that too was off target.
Prasanth K - 6.5
Almost got on the scoresheet off a brilliant move, but fired his shot tantalisingly close off the post. Taken off for Krishnananda Singh in the 67th minute.
Brandon Vanlalrendika - 6.5
Low centre of gravity allowed the diminutive midfielder to skip past his markers with ease. Brandon completed 88% of his passes but was unable to generate any big chances and was substituted for Ricky Shabong in the 88th minute.
Ashish Pradhan - 6
Left a gaping hole in defence as he rushed out to catch Cummings who slipped onto Colaco and eventually allowed the ball to fall for Petratos to smash home. Finished the game with two ground duels won out of six, and an 80% pass completion rate.
Juan Mera - 6
The creator-in-chief for the I-League champions looked to be short on both firepower and creativity as he made only one key pass over 74 minutes before being taken off for Ranjeet Singh.
Luka Majcen - 7.5
The lethal Slovenian had a sniff of blood early on as he snuck past Hector Yuste and skied his volley but was somehow ruled offside. Got his first-ever ISL goal after collecting Glan Martins’ lose pass back to the goal and poking it into the net.
Madih Talal - 6
Went into the book for a suspected dive after being pushed by Brendan Hamill in the opposition box. Taken off after after 74 minutes as he could manage only two blocked shots on target and was replaced by Kingslee Fernandes.
Substitutes

Won all of his duels and might have helped the team further had he been subbed earlier.
Kingslee Fernandes - 6.5
Exhibited good dribbling in tight spots completing one take-on and winning 50% of his defensive battles.
Ricky John Shabong- 6.5
Generated one key pass out of five passes after only nine minutes of action and could’ve been crucial for his side if he was brought on earlier.
Ranjeet Singh - N/A
Got only 11 touches on the ball and didn’t have a significant impact on the game.
