UCL 2023-24: Arsenal vs PSV: Predicted lineup, injury news, head-to-head, telecast

Emirates Stadium to host Champions League football after six long years
After almost getting away with the Premier League title only to finish second, Arsenal have found their way back to the big time. Europe's biggest continental competition in football will see The Gunners back in action after half a decade of absence. Mikel Arteta's side kickstarted their season by taking down last year's treble winners Man City to win the FA Community Shield and are unbeaten in the Premier League as well.
PSV Eindhoven also finished second in their domestic Dutch league the Eredivisie last season. They had to win the qualifiers to get to the group stages of the UEFA Champions League where they are set to meet a similar opponent. Last year both Arsenal and PSV were grouped in the Europa League's Group A. In the home fixture, PSV had even defeated Mikel Arteta's side by 2-0.
Kick-Off:
Wednesday, 20 September at 8:00 PM UK
Thursday, 21 September at 12:30 AM IST
Location: Emirates Stadium
Form
Arsenal (in all competitions): W-W-D-W-W
PSV (in all competitions): W-W-W-D-W
Players to watch
Gabriel Jesus (Arsenal)
Eddie Nketiah was given the start against Everton but failed to impress and leave a mark at Goodison Park. Mikel Arteta will be looking to change the striker going in to face PSV. The Brazilian forward and former Man City man will be eager to help Arsenal land a win after a six-year absence in the Champions League. In just nine per cent of minutes handed to Gabriel Jesus in three games, the 26-year-old impressively has a goal to his name in PL.
Luuk de Jong (PSV)
PSV's talisman striker is no short of goal contributions this season. Luuk de Jong has scored four and assisted another three in four Eredivisie appearances. The 33-year-old striker played a huge role in getting PSV to the Champions League group stages in the first place. In the 2023-24 UCL qualifiers, de Jong was a force to be reckoned with scoring five and providing two assists in those four very important games. He will be looking to give PSV further hopes for three points in this game.
Match facts
- Arsenal are playing Champions League football after six years of absence
- Last season in the Europa League group stages both teams had collided. The results were Arsenal 1-0 PSV and PSV 2-0 Arsenal
- The Gunners are unbeaten in 8 of their last games including friendlies while PSV have recorded 12 games as unbeaten themselves
Injury & team news
The home side is battling with untimely injuries. In a narrow victory over Everton in the PL, Arsenal lost their man Gabriel Martinelli. He actually felt something in his hamstring, so is unlikely to feature in this game. Leandro Trossard is expected to replace him. Apart from Matinelli, Mikel Arteta will have to do without Thomas Partey, Jurrien Timber and Mohamed Elneny.
For the away PSV side, winger Noa Lang was withdrawn in the second half when they faced NEC in the last game. Lang will probably be out so Hirving Lozano is expected to slot in the wing position. Defensively the Dutch side are without Armando Obispo, Fredrik Oppegard and Mauro Junior.
