Eddie Howe's Newcastle United were rampant against Sheffield United

Following their impressive, commanding 8-0 victory away at Sheffield United on Sunday afternoon, Newcastle United established a Premier League record.

With eight different goal scorers, the Magpies set a record for the most in a single Premier League game. The Blades insisted that the ball had hit Anthony Gordon's hand during the buildup before Sean Longstaff controversially tucked home the opening goal. Dan Burn scored the second goal, ghosting in at the back post and heading past Wes Foderingham.

Within the first 35 minutes, Sven Botman added Newcastle's third goal to make it 3-0. Callum Wilson's team's fourth goal of the match, their team's third header at that time, came 11 minutes following the game's resumption.

When the Magpies reached the final five, Anthony Gordon's curled attempt from outside the area only served to make things worse for Sheffield United.

By the moment Alexander Isak netted in the eighth minute, many of the home supporters had already left, making Newcastle's victory the joint-largest in the Premier League era. Miguel Almiron and Bruno Guimaraes each scored goals five minutes apart to complete the scoring.

There was only other away victory greater than this one, which surpassed even Manchester United's 8-1 triumph at Nottingham Forest back in 1999, was Leicester's 9-0 victory at Southampton in 2009.

Maddy Cusack, a former soccer player for Sheffield United who unfortunately passed away on Wednesday at the young age of 27, was honoured earlier.

However, the Blades were powerless to commemorate the sad event with a successful performance or outcome, and as the goals poured in during the second half, fans began to disperse.
