Urawa Red Diamonds are the defending champions

The AFC Champions League 2023-24 season is the 42nd edition of the premier competition in Asia. This is the 21st and last season under the branding of the AFC Champions League and from next season the competition will be named as AFC Champions League Elite.

There are 40 teams in the competition and are divided into 10 groups. There are five groups each in the West Region (Group A to E) and the East Region (Group F to J). The qualified teams were placed in four pots on the basis of their association rankings and their seeding within their association.

These teams will play against each other twice in their respective groups, with one being a home leg and the other match being an away leg. From these 40 teams, 16 will make it to the knockout stage.

The group winners will get an automatic qualification and they will be joined by the six best runners-up from the ten groups. All the knockout ties are two-legged matches, including the final match of the tournament.

J League side Urawa Red Diamonds got the better of Al Hilal in last season's final. Al Hilal were held to a 1-1 draw at home in the first leg. An own goal in the second match was enough for Urawa to confirm the 2022-23 AFC Champions League.

Al Hilal have the most AFC Champions League titles to their name. They are on four championships and only one ahead of the current holders and Pohang Steelers.

Mumbai City FC are representing India at the biggest stage of club football in Asia. Saudi clubs have made massive investments in the transfer window and head as the favourites to lift the trophy. Al Nassr, Al Ittihad and Al Hilal are the strongest contenders for this title.
