Only one Indian player made it to this list in ISL Gameweek 2.
Gameweek two of the 10th edition of the Indian Super League (ISL) was filled with high-end drama and surprises, as the football fever struck across the country once again. Surpassing the initial gameweek in terms of goals and drama, gameweek two really took the fans through a roller coaster ride.
The week started off with Mohun Bagan's narrow win over Bengaluru, followed by an intense battle between Odisha and Mumbai, that resulted in a draw.
NorthEast picked up their first league victory since December 2022, whilst Goa kicked off their season on a high.
Kerala’s narrow win against Jamshedpur took them to the top of the table along with Bagan, whereas a wonder strike from Cleiton Silva led East Bengal to grab all three points.
A number of stars emerged into the spotlight, courtesy of a performance worth recognising during this week of absorbing football. So without further ado, here is a list of the five best players from gameweek 2 of the ISL 2023-24.
5. Nestor Albiach (NorthEast United FC)
Nestor looked lethal against Chennaiyin, and seemed to be finally adapting to Juan Pedro Benali’s style of play. His understanding with the attackers was top-notch, and some of his one-two plays were a delight to watch. The Spaniard couldn’t get on the scoresheet despite some incredible efforts, but got an assist to his name, courtesy of an inch-perfect cross to Phalguni Singh.
4. Greg Stewart (Mumbai City FC)
As always, Greg Stewart put up another impressive performance for Mumbai, and gave the Juggernauts a run for their money. The Englishman was a creative mastermind for the team, and threaded beautiful passes and posed danger every time he was on the ball. With an assist to his name, and a Khel Now rating of 8, Greg’s inclusion in the list in unquestionable.
3. Adrian Luna (Kerala Blasters)
Luna made headlines yet again, as he rose to the occasion when his team needed him the most. His exceptional goal in the 74th minute, helped Kerala break the dreadlock, and pick up another crucial three points. Luna’s quick thinking and exceptional abilities were on full display against Jamshedpur, and there doesn’t seem to be a way to stop the mighty Uruguayan from scoring in the ISL.
2. Parthib Gogoi (NorthEast United FC)
One of the biggest hotshots of Indian football - Parthib Gogoi once again got his name among the ISL's best weekly performers, courtesy of a remarkable performance against Chennaiyin FC. The youngster opened the account for the Highlanders with a spectacular dip shot from outside the box, to send the entire stadium into fairyland. Parthib was also spectacular with the ball at his feet throughout the 90 minutes, and is one of the most in-form players in the ISL at the moment.
1. Cleiton Silva (East Bengal FC)
Cleiton’s brace against the Nizams helped East bengal secure their first win of the ISL 2023-24 season, and the Brazilian proved his worth yet again to the Red & Gold Brigade. From a simple chip into the goal, to a stoppage team worldie from yards out, Cleiton brought smiles to the dreaded faces of East Bengal supporters, and rightfully earns a number one spot in the top performer of the week rankings.
