ISL 2023-24: Top five performers from Gameweek 3
These individuals certainly made the most impact during ISL 2023-24 Gameweek 3.
Another exciting week has drawn an end in the Indian Super League, with the teams getting more in their groove, as well as the table taking shape.
The gameweek started off with some Spanish magic by Javi Hernandez, whose acrobatic brilliance helped Bengaluru FC to their first win. Jamshedpur FC too sealed their maiden victory, with a hard fought battle against Hyderabad FC.
Punjab FC got their first point on board, with a draw against mighty NorthEast United. The weekend saw three exciting fixtures being played, which included a stunning showdown in Goa, a Mohun Bagan masterclass, and Mumbai City’s statement victory against Kerala Blasters.
Whilst a number of incredible individual performances transpired throughout the course of these six games, some players truly raised the bar with their poignant displays, and got their name amongst the top five players of the week.
So here is a detailed list of these five individuals.
5. Mohammed Ali Bemammer
NorthEast United had a tough night away from home at the capital city, and if it weren’t for their Moroccan midfielder, the Highlanders wouldn’t have gotten away with a point from the tie.
Bemammer was a beast in midfield for NorthEast, and made several blocks and interceptions in crucial situations. His defensive record also includes a total of 11 duels won, and five successful tackles made.
For his fearless and influential performance, Bemammer also received the man of the match award.
4. Mourtada Fall
Fall’s homecoming in Goa was touched upon by an incredible performance that saw the Senegalese score twice for the Juggernauts.
Mourtada stood up as a real hero in what was a rather tough night for Odisha, and scored two amazing goals from two corner kicks. His defensive shift was also commendable, as he made 11 clearances and blocked three shots.
With such impressive numbers on either end of the field, Fall is definitely amongst the ranks of this week’s top performers.
3. Javi Hernandez
Bengaluru’s return to their fortress was made special and memorable by their Spanish midfielder Javi Hernandez. With the score settled at 1-1 up until the 71st minute mark, hope seemed to be dwindling amongst the Blues, who had already suffered from a tormenting start to the season.
But their doubts and fears were swirled into joy and relief, as their midfield maestro Javi restored the lead for the side, and succoured them to their first win of the season.
Javi scored an incredible bicycle kick right into the bottom corner, and also put up a strong shift in the middle of the park.
2. Noah Sadaoui
Noah stepped up to the occasion yet again, and delivered for the Gaurs when it mattered the most. The winger was heavily involved in all of Goa’s attacking endeavours, and scored two goals for them as well.
Noah wasn’t only lethal in front of the goal, but was also a provider for his team, as he delivered two crosses as well as three key passes.
Also, Noah’s 10 successful ground duels and five tackles, serve as testament to the player’s all-round contribution against Odisha.
1. Sahal Abdul Samad
Sahal’s performance in Mohun Bagan’s 3-1 victory against Chennaiyin FC was amongst one of the most impressive shifts ever by an Indian player in ISL 2023-24.
Sahal played his stride to perfection, with two outstanding assists as well as a substantial involvement in the third goal for his side.
He was a joy to watch on the field, and his jaw dropping skills and trickery once again proved why the 26-year-old is the upcoming superstar.
