Manolo Marquez: Very disappointed with the team's performance
FC Goa boss Manolo Marquez has called out for consistency from his players during match situations.
FC Goa secured a 1-0 victory over Indian Super League (ISL) debutants Punjab FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa on Monday. The lone goal of the match came in the 17th minute, courtesy of FC Goa's new Spanish recruit, Carlos Martinez. The Gaurs can attribute their win to Martinez's early goal, as they dominated the majority of the game. Despite attempting multiple shots throughout the match, Manolo Marquez's team struggled to find the target, with Martinez's goal ultimately making the difference.

The FC Goa head coach was however, not quite impressed with his side despite the win and lashed it out in the post match conference.
Thoughts on the game
The former UD Las Palmas coach shared his views on the game. “The best thing that I can say is that we won the game,” he began and went on adding, “I’m very disappointed with the performance of the team. The opponent created some clear chances. In the defensive line, the team was more or less okay. I’m very angry with the performance.”

Furthermore, Manolo Marquez believes that the team won because they had better players than Punjab FC. “We won because we have good players and the quality of the players decided one action (the goal) which decided the game. It’s true that we played good in the first 20 minutes in the second half. We kept the ball, we took the ball but when you don't score the second goal, during the last minute the fear appears (of conceding). The risk is normal and you have to score in one counter-attack and finish the game but we didn't do it. The best thing is three points, but we need to improve in all aspects of the game,” he explained.

Calls for consistency during match situations
Manolo Marquez has demanded consistency during match situations and promised that he and his side will work hard to improve certain aspects of the game. “We will win games, but we will lose games (too). In my opinion, the team with a lot of ups and downs, it’s difficult for them to have a good season. We need to have better balance in the team. Today we played good (for) some minutes, then nothing (playing poorly). This is impossible (unacceptable). We need to improve and we have to do so. The only way that I know is to keep going and work hard,” he quoted in his concluding statement.
