'Kerala Blasters deserved more against Mumbai,' NorthEast United coach Juan Pedro Benali
NorthEast United will look to end their poor form against the Blasters
The Indian Super League (ISL) turns this weekend after a 12-day international break. The action resumes with a doubleheader. NorthEast United will lock horns with hosts Kerala Blasters in Kochi in the second game of the Saturday doubleheader.
The Highlanders come into this game on the back of a draw while the Blasters were handed a defeat. Ahead of the game, NorthEast United’s head coach Juan Pedro Benali and goalkeeper Mirshad Koottappunna addressed the media.
Thoughts on Kerala Blasters
The head coach started by sharing his thoughts on Kerala Blasters. He said that they are a very strong and stable side who play good football.
“Whatever we saw about Kerala Blasters will be less. They are a big team and have been stable for the last three years and they play good football. You can see their last three games. They deserved more in the last game against Mumbai (City FC).
Juan also added that despite the injuries and suspensions, Kerala Blasters will be a tough opposition to play against.
“It is a strong team. Even if they have some players injured and suspended, others will come in because they are very stable. It will be a very tough game. But, it will be a nice beautiful game on a nice evening,”
Kerala Blasters’ fans
Kerala Blasters are known for their rich fan culture. The Spaniard was asked if playing against the Blasters’ faithful will be tough for his side. He replied, “No, we don’t play against the fans. We are happy to have the fans in the stadium. I hope there are only players on the pitch. It’s great to have fans. I hope all the stadiums are filled like this. I hope we can give the fans joy,”
Team update by Juan Pedro Benali
Juan Pedro Benali also shared an update on his team and said that except for Manvir Singh all his players are available for selection.
“You will see the changes tomorrow. There are not many changes. We have 23 players with us over here. Only Manvir Singh did not come with us because he is injured, but others are all ready to participate tomorrow,” he concluded.
