Chandigarh lost the final in the Subroto Cup 2022
The U-17 boys category of the 62nd Subroto Cup has now reached its final stage. Following two exciting matches in the semifinal round, the teams representing Chandigarh and Uttarakhand have successfully qualified for the final round of the tournament, which is scheduled to take place on October 23, 2023.
After emerging triumphant in the quarter-final rounds, Government Model Senior Secondary School, situated in Sector 37 B, Chandigarh, TG English Medium School from Manipur, Government Haulawang High School in Haulawang, Lunglei, Mizoram, and Amenity Public School in Rudrapur, Uttarakhand (CBSE) had successfully secured their place in the semifinal round.

Match 1
In the first semifinal In the first match Govt. Model Senior Secondary School from Sector 37 B, Chandigarh faced T.G English Medium School of Manipur.
With a goal by Lalchenba in the additional time Govt. Model Senior Secondary School from Sector 37 B, Chandigarh won the match and made an entry into the final.
Match 2
The second semi-final was played between Govt. Haulawang High School, Haulawang, Lunglei, Mizoram and Amenity Public School, Rudrapur, Uttarakhand who are representing CBSE.
The match reached a deadlock with a goal each from both sides even after the extra time, necessitating a penalty shootout to determine the victor. The tension escalated as a total of ten penalties were taken by both teams in order to ascertain the outcome. Ultimately, Amenity Public School, Rudrapur, Uttarakhand emerged triumphant with an 8-7 penalty scoreline.

The player hailing from Uttarakhand had an exceptional performance in the quarterfinal round, netting two consecutive goals to propel his team to the semifinals.

Lalchenba
Lalchenba of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 37 B, Chandigarh, is a notable player to keep an eye on in the final of the U-17 category. His performance on the field has been exceptional.
Notably, he has been the sole goal scorer for his team in both the quarterfinal and semifinal matches. Undoubtedly, the Chandigarh team will heavily rely on his skills and contribution in their quest for the title.

The former Indian athlete and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna awardee Anju Bobby George will be present at the final of the U-17 boys.
Notably, Anju Bobby George was the first Indian athlete to win a medal in the World Athletic Championships. She achieved this feat when she won a bronze medal in the long jump at the 2003 World Championships in Athletics which was held in Paris.
