FIFA World Cup Qualifiers: India's squad

India will play Kuwait on November 16

The Indian men’s national football team is scheduled to face Kuwait and Qatar in their forthcoming matches as part of the second round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The first match is scheduled to take place on November 16th at the Jaber Al-Ahmed International Stadium in Kuwait City, while the second match will be played on November 21st at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.

After a short period of training in Dubai for one week, the Blue Tigers journeyed to Kuwait City to compete against Kuwait on November 16. Prior to their departure for Kuwait, the team received a heart touching message from the captain of Jazeera Airways.

The captain at first mentioned about the presence of the Indian team in the flight who are going to Kuwait to play for the world cup qualifiers. He said, “We have a special guest on board today, the Indian Football team, who are going to play the World Cup Qualifiers in Kuwait. We wish them all the best from Jazeera Airways and my entire team.”

He then mentioned a special message that was conveyed by the Manjappada Kuwait Wing which was later read by one of his team mates. The message stated “Manjappada Kuwait Wing extends a warm welcome to the Indian national football team and best wishes for the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. We are waiting to watch you and support your team at the stadium. Thank You, Jai Hind”

India, positioned in Group A, will also encounter Afghanistan during the upcoming international break. The teams that secure the top two positions in the group will advance to Round 3. In contrast to prior tournaments, the Blue Tigers are considered strong contenders to secure the second place behind Qatar and qualify for the subsequent round.

India has participated in a total of 48 World Cup qualifiers, achieving victory in 10 matches. Notably, their most prosperous campaign occurred during the 2002 World Cup Qualifiers, when the Indian national team amassed an impressive 11 points from six matches.
