I-League 2023-24: Team of the Week for GW 4

Proven stars Samad Ali Mallick, Salam Ranjan Singh shine again

After a series of exhilarating matches and notable displays of skill, the I-League 2023-24 is poised to commence its fifth week of competition. During the fourth week, several Indian players showcased their exceptional abilities, leaving a lasting impression through their remarkable performances.

Gokulam Kerala maintains its position at the top of the table, having secured three victories and a draw out of four matches. Moving to the next spot is Mohammedan SC, with the same number of points but with two fewer goals scored compared to the Kerala team. At the bottom of the standings are NEROCA and TRAU, who are yet to secure a win in the league.

In this article we will take a look at the players who have made it to the team of the week in the fourth week of play. 

GK – Padam Chettri (Mohammedan SC)

Padam Chettri has been exceptional for Mohammedan. Despite not having much involvement in the game against TRAU, his abilities were aptly demonstrated in their recent match against Delhi.

RB – Samad Ali Mallick (Mohammedan SC)

Samad Ali has exhibited exceptional performance as a defender for Mohammedan throughout the league. His adeptness at man marking and his thrilling tackling skills have successfully kept the opposition at bay.

CB – Gustavo Claudio da Silva (Aizawl FC)

Gustavo performed admirably in the match against NEROCA. His exceptional abilities in the defensive line were predominantly showcased during the first half of the game. The Brazilian consistently demonstrated his skill set and provided guidance to his fellow teammates in the defensive position.

CB – Salam Ranjan Singh (Gokulam Kerala)

Salam demonstrated exceptional composure in the defensive lineup. He remained composed and executed strategic tackles effectively, thwarting any potential threats to his team’s goal. 

LB – Pawan Kumar (Sreenidi Deccan)

Pawan has demonstrated remarkable skills while playing for the Deccan squad. The young player’s abilities in making accurate clearances and crucial passes have been exceptional. Even when facing opposition threats, he remains composed and selects the appropriate teammate to distribute the ball to.

CDM – Edu Bedia (Gokulam Kerala)

Edu Bedia played a crucial role in Gokulam’s victory against TRAU in their recent match. Despite not finding the back of the net himself, he consistently generated scoring opportunities for his team.

CAM – Rosenberg Gabriel (Sreenidi Deccan)

Gabriel not only exerted control over the midfield area but also showcased his prowess by scoring two goals for Sreenidi Deccan, thereby contributing significantly to their second win in the league.

RW – Rahul Raju (Churchill Brothers)

Rahul displayed exceptional skills and stood out from his teammates in the recent match against Rajasthan FC. He exhibited excellent control of the midfield, consistently delivering well-timed passes and executing impressive tackles to neutralize potential threats.

LW – Lalchungnunga Chhangte (Rajasthan United FC)

A splendid goal scored in the fifth minute of the match against the Churchill Brothers captivated the attention of all spectators. Chhangte skillfully executed a left-footed shot from outside the penalty area, precisely directing it into the net.

ST – Alex Sanchez (Gokulam Kerala)

Sanchez single-handedly secured victory for Kerala in their previous match. He swiftly took the initiative by scoring the opening goal within the first minute of play, and swiftly followed it up with a second goal in the 16th minute.

ST – Lalrinzuala Lalbiaknia (Aizawl FC)

Lalbiaknia showcased remarkable skills in his recent match against NEROCA. He posed a significant threat to the opponent and brilliantly achieved a hat-trick, concluding with a penalty goal in the 90+6th minute.
