I-League 2023-24: Team of the Week for GW 6
A lot of goals were witnessed in gameweek 6.
The ongoing season of the I-League is proving to be highly thrilling, capturing the attention of fans across the nation. Every team is fiercely competing to make their mark in each match, resulting in an intense battle to score goals in most of the games.
After the completion of the sixth week, Mohammedan SC are firmly holding the top spot with 16 points, while Sreenidi Deccan are placed at second spot with 13 points followed by Gokulam Kerala FC with 10 points.
With each passing week, the number of goals scored is steadily rising in most matches. Even the teams that are on the losing side are not hesitating to display their determination and compete in the game.

GK – Padam Chettri (Mohammedan SC)
Padam has been the standout performer for Mohammedan SC throughout the current season. Despite the defensive prominence in repelling most attacks, Padam has showcased remarkable agility and finesse within the penalty area on numerous occasions.
RB – Eli Sabia (Sreenidi Deccan)
The Brazilian defender, Eli Sabia, played a crucial role in containing Rajasthan’s aggressive style of play towards the end of the match, ultimately aiding his team, Sreenidi Deccan, in securing three valuable points.
CB – Abhisek Ambekar (Sreenidi Deccan)
Abhisek Ambekar’s partnership with Eli Sabia stood out in the match as they effectively thwarted the opposing team’s attempts and prevented them from scoring a second goal, despite conceding an early lead.
CB – Daniel Goncalves(Shillong Lajong)
Goncalves has once again been selected for the team of the week, banking on his outstanding performance in the previous match against Delhi. It was his exceptional display during the first half of the game that truly stood out, as he defended like a stalwart and executed some impressive tackles.
LB – Emiliano Callegari Torre (Churchill Brothers)
With the responsibility of guarding the defensive line, Torre demonstrated his prowess by scoring the fourth goal of the match with a brilliant left-footed strike from a free kick.
RM – Wahengbam Angousana (Mohammedan SC)
Wahengbam successfully scored the second goal of the match against Inter Kashi FC in the early stages of the second half. In addition, he displayed excellent control over the right flank throughout the remainder of the match, demonstrating remarkable precision with minimal mistakes.
CM – Mohammad Asrar Rehbar (Real Kashmir)
Rehbar managed to achieve the opening goal of the match. With skillful maneuvering, he successfully outmaneuvered the goalkeeper’s attempts to block him, employing a subtle nudge towards the far post to secure his strike and find the back of the net.
AM – K Lalrinfela (Aizawl FC)
Lalrinfela has exhibited outstanding performance in recent matches, showcasing remarkable skills on the field. Notably, he successfully scored a goal during the match against Namdhari FC, which signified his second goal of the season.
CM – Phrangki Buam (Shillong Lajong)
Buam scored the crucial goal in the 82nd minute, providing Shillong with a lead that ultimately led them to victory in the match.
LM – Richard Costa (Churchill Brothers)
With a well-executed header in the 33rd minute of play, Costa successfully netted the second goal of the match, providing Churchill Brothers with a significant advantage. His consistent development in the game was evident in the previous match.
ST – Lalrinzuala Lalbiaknia (Aizawl FC)
Lalbiaknia has displayed exceptional performance for Aizawl FC this year, having already scored four goals during the season. In their recent match against Namdhari FC, he effectively scored the opening goal in the 42nd minute, paving the way for subsequent goals and ultimately aiding the team in securing a victory.
