Staikos said that his side will try to be competitive in all the games.

Punjab FC finds itself on the road as it faces Bengaluru FC in their next Indian Super League contest on 30 November 2023 at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium. Staikos Vergetis, head coach of Punjab FC, is under a lot of pressure as the newly promoted side, under his leadership, is yet to find its first win of the 2023-24 campaign.

The head coach spoke to the media and was joined by midfielder and former BFC player Leon Augustine. They spoke about the challenge of facing Bengaluru FC in their own backyard and what needs to be done in order to secure a win.

Here are the excerpts from the conversation:

Difficult transition

Staikos Vergetis talked about the transition from the I-League to the Indian Super League and how it has affected the team’s performance. He said, “We have faced difficulties. Transitioning from the I-League to ISL which is shown in the results. We try to be competitive in all games. Apart from one game (against Chennaiyin FC), all the other games we have lost by a goal. Not winning a game in the season will only make us work harder and I believe that a win will come soon.”

“We made some silly mistakes that cost us the game. In the upcoming contest, we will have to make sure that we don’t repeat the same mistakes in the match tomorrow”, the head coach said while talking about the last meeting between the clubs which ended 2-0 in favour of the Blues in the Super Cup.

Leon Augustine on leaving Bengaluru FC

Leon Augustine spent eight long years playing for Bengaluru FC. He understands that the challenge is tough facing BFC at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium. However, he remains positive ahead of the game and expressed contentment with how his initial days with Punjab FC have gone.

He said, “It was a difficult decision for me to leave the club. But it has been a great experience in a new club, I am taking my time to adapt to the new system and ideology. Hopefully, we’ll soon see the results of the hard work we are putting in.”
