Will be facing a highly skilled team known for their exceptional work ethic: Sergio Lobera on facing Jamshedpur FC
Lobera feels Jamshedpur FC deserves to be ranked higher in the points table.
After securing a resounding victory in the AFC Cup against the formidable Mohun Bagan Super Giant, Odisha FC is now set to clash with Jamshedpur FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24 season at the JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur on December 1st.
Both teams have previously played against each other on 12 occasions. Jamshedpur FC has demonstrated superiority with eight victories, while Odisha has only managed to secure two wins. Odisha FC are now placed at fifth position in the points table while Jamshedpur FC are at 10th position.
Odisha FC’s head coach Sergio Lobera and player Jerry Mawihmingthanga attended the pre-match press conference.
Odisha’s learning from AFC Cup
Odisha FC has showcased an extraordinary prowess during their AFC Cup matches this year. They have emerged victorious against Maziya S&RC on two occasions and once against Mohun Bagan Super Giant. On a question regarding it, coach Sergio Lobera said, “I believe that the state of Indian football is steadily improving and progressing each day. We find ourselves in a favorable position, as we work with great enthusiasm to enhance the development of Indian football.”
“We are fortunate to have a talented pool of players, and it is crucial for us to perform well not only in local competitions but also on the continental stage of Asia. It brings us immense pleasure to represent both our club and the nation. We are filled with excitement as we prepare for the upcoming match, which will be held at our home ground, and we eagerly anticipate the opportunity to advance to the next phase”, he added.
Match against Jamshedpur FC
Although Jamshedpur FC hasn’t performed to their potential this season, they can beat any side on their day. Sergio Lobera said, “It will be a challenging match as we will be facing a highly skilled team known for their exceptional work ethic. Additionally, playing in their stadium has always proven to be a difficult task.”
“However, it is my strong belief that they deserve a higher point tally on the scoreboard than what they currently have. This is my personal opinion on the matter”, he added further.
Jerry’s experience of being in Jamshedpur FC
Jerry Mawihmingthanga has been part of Jamshedpur FC for around two years. On a question about the difference between his stint in JFC compared to OFC, he replied, “I am delighted to be here once again. I have had the opportunity to play here for two years, and it has been an incredibly enriching experience. When I moved to Odisha, the management and coaching staff were instrumental in my growth, both as a footballer and as an individual. Their support has been invaluable.”
“Furthermore, since Sergio’s arrival, my progress on the field has been even more remarkable. The transition from Jamshedpur to Odisha has greatly contributed to my overall development, not only in my professional career but also in my personal life”, he stated further.
