Injury Woes: When will Jeakson Singh, Anwar Ali & Ashique Kuruniyan return to action?
Ashique Kuruniyan has been out due to ACL injury since September 7.
Three-star Indian footballers, Anwar Ali, Ashique Kuruniyan, and Jeakson Singh, have been sidelined from their respective club games due to injuries they sustained a few months ago. This unfortunate circumstance has prevented their participation also in the Indian National Team.
As discussed in Inside Indian Football’s Episode 106, Jeakson Singh is expected to return to the field by the last week of December. Ashique Kuruniyan will still require approximately six months for recovery, while Anwar Ali’s cast is scheduled to be removed in mid-December.
Jeakson Singh’s shoulder injury
Jeakson suffered a shoulder injury during a match against Mumbai City on October 8th. He has been a crucial player for Kerala Blasters FC and has also made a significant impact on the Indian national team as well.
Unfortunately, the injury prevented him from participating in the two qualifying matches against Kuwait and Qatar. Following a surgical procedure, Jeakson is expected to make his return to the field in the last week of December.
Anwar Ali’s fracture
Anwar has been a crucial player for the Indian team, consistently performing alongside Sandesh Jhingan in the defensive line. The absence of Anwar from the squad is a significant setback for the Indian national team.
Ali suffered an ankle injury during Mohun Bagan’s match in the AFC Cup 2023-24 against Basundhara Kings. As a result, he required crutches and had to undergo a recovery period of at least two months. The latest reports indicate that Ali has a cast due to a fracture, which is expected to be removed in mid-December. Once the cast is removed, Ali will be able to make his return to the field.
Ashique Kuruniyan’s ACL injury
Ashique Kuruniyan sustained an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during India’s King’s Cup match against Iraq on 7 September. The unfortunate injury occurred in the 57th minute of the game, prompting his substitution by Rahim Ali.
Based on preliminary assessments, it has been determined that the ACL tear is estimated to be around 40%, which necessitates a lengthy healing process. A recent insider report indicates that Ashique will require approximately six months to fully recover from this injury.
