Mumbai City are amongst the only three undefeated sides in ISL this season

Indian Super League (ISL) league defending shield winning head coach Des Buckingham mutually parted ways with Mumbai City FC and has joined EFL League one side and his boyhood club Oxford United.

The English manager guided the Islanders to their league shield last season and also managed them in two AFC Champions League campaigns. And now after two years he has bid goodbye to Mumbai City FC.

Rostyn Griffiths reacts

Des Buckingham’s departure has come in as a very unexpected news for the fans and the players. Mumbai City FC’s defender from down under Rostyn Griffiths has expressed his thoughts over the English manager’s move to Oxford United.

Griffiths took to his X (formerly twitter) account and wrote that he is sad to see Des Buckingham go, but is also happy to see his happiness in his smile.

“Sad to see you go @DesBuckingham but can see from your smile how much the move meant to you!” Griffiths wrote.

He also complimented Des about the systems and cultures that he has developed within the team and they should continue even during his absence. “You’ve left @MumbaiCityFC in a better place. The biggest compliment I can give is that the systems and culture you’ve built should continue even without you and to me that’s a job well done,” Griffiths added.

Mumbai City FC’s performance in ISL 2023-24

Mumbai City FC have had a great start to the 10th edition of the ISL under the English Manager. They are one amongst the only three undefeated sides in the league so far. The Islanders opened their season with a bang against NorthEast United in September and haven’t looked back since then.

They have won three games and drawn two out of the five matches that they have played so far this season. And they currently find themselves in fourth position on the points table with 11 points to their name.
