Barcelona & Real Madrid compete for Nico Williams’ signing
By Rajarshi Shukla
Nico Williams is open to an exit from Athletic Bilbao
The winger for Athletic Club, Nico Williams, appears to be close to finalising a new contract, despite remarks from his representative indicating otherwise. However, it appears more likely than not that he won’t be in the upcoming season in Bilbao.
Williams stated in the open that he had made up his mind what he wanted to do. Although a deal may not yet be finalised, it is thought that he will extend his contract with a €50 million release clause to transfer this summer.
However, it appears as though it will eliminate one of his possible destinations. Sport reports that Williams is no longer being courted by Barcelona to reject a contract and go with them as a free agent.
They had a conversation with Williams over a possible agreement, but Williams is thought to have agreed to a new contract with Athletic, and the Blaugrana are unwilling to pay €50 million to him in the summer.

Williams’ purchase price is probably not going to be a big deal at Real Madrid or the Premier League, where he has been strongly connected.
The only firm idea of moving to England is Aston Villa, where he would be warmly welcomed by Unai Emery and Monchi. Williams, one of Spain’s hardest wingers to stop, has a bright future no matter where he plays.

Real Madrid are in a far stronger position and may even look into triggering the winger’s current contract’s €50 million release clause. Williams is an intriguing option at the price, according to Madrid’s hierarchy, as the team looks to add to its pool of youthful potential.
The Spanish squad is particularly impressed with William’s position on the Spanish national team since, despite his young age of 21, he has already proven to be an important member of Luis de la Fuente’s plans.
