Nigeria climb to 42nd place in latest FIFA World Ranking

Nigeria will look to win the AFCON 2023
Following their back-to-back victories during the most recent international break, Gernot Rohr’s team is now ranked third in Africa, behind Senegal and Tunisia.
Nigeria is now ranked 42nd in the world according to Fifa’s most recent list, which was made public on Thursday.
Following victories over Seychelles and Egypt in March, the Super Eagles moved up four spots from their initial 46th place in the 2019 worldwide rankings.
Nigeria overcame the Pirates 3-1 on March 22 to wrap up their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying season as Group E leaders. Four days later, in an international friendly held at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, they triumphed 1-0 over the Pharaohs.
In the continental rankings, the three-time African champions are presently behind Senegal [23] and Tunisia [28]. The top ten was completed by Morocco [45], the Democratic Republic of the Congo [46], Ghana [49], Cameroon [54], Egypt [57], Burkina Faso [58], and Mali [65].

Belgium continues to hold its position atop the global rankings, with France, Brazil, England, and Croatia rounding out the top five.
In men’s international football, Nigeria is represented by the Nigeria national football team. They are three-time Africa Cup of Nations champions, with their latest victory coming in 2013.
They are regulated by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). The Nigerian national football team held the best FIFA rating position ever attained by an African football team when it was rated fifth in April 1994.
With the exception of the 2006 and 2022 tournaments, the team was selected for six of the previous eight FIFA World Cups. They have three times advanced to the round of 16. They participated in the 1994 World Cup for the first time. Both FIFA and the Confederation of African Football recognise the squad as members.
