The Mariners put on a lineup filled with reserve and youth team players today.

Mohun Bagan Super Giant ended their 2023/24 AFC Cup campaign with a 1-0 loss to Maziya S&RC at the Maldives National Football Stadium on Monday (11 December). The Mariners put on a lineup filled with reserve and youth team players, who worked hard but couldn’t really put anything past the hosts.

A goal from Hassan Raif Ahmed in the 40th minute was enough to decide the game, with the Mariners finishing Group D in third place. Here are the Player Ratings for the game.

Mohun Bagan Super Giant

Arsh Shaikh – 8.5

Probably the brightest performer in his team. Really sharp in his goal and showcased impressive reflexes to make a ton of important saves to keep the scoreline minimal.

Raj Basfore – 6.5

Basfore was quite a hard-working figure on the right, putting in a lot of energy into trying to restrict Maziya’s movement down his side. Didn’t really let them create that many major chances.

Deepak Tangri – 7.0

The Mariners’ captain on the day was quite composed at the back and moved the ball forward really nicely.

Sumit Rathi – 5.0

Rathi was part of a makeshift back-four, but had troubles against some of Maziya’s attacks. Caught in bad positions at times and was lucky that none of his errors were capitalized on.

Engson Singh – 5.5

Engson was made to work really hard on his side, with Maziya creating most of his moves through the right. Caught off-footed at tiems,

Lalrinliana Hnamte – 6.5

Hnamte was one of the more experienced figures in the outfield and helped move the ball forward nicely on the transitions. Worked hard to make Maizya work in midfield and created a few half-chances.

Taison Singh – 6.0

The energetic winger actually got at the end of some promising chances in the first half, scuffing a shot wide and then hitting a shot at the goalkeeper in an offside situation. Showcased some nice movement too.

Abhishek Suryavanshi – 6.0

Suryavanshi was pretty nice with his movement and passed the ball around diligently, being quite proactive in midfield.

Ravi Rana – 5.5

Rana played on the left wing and made some nice runs down his side, making the opposition defender work hard. Couldn’t create anything major, though.

Amandeep Singh – 5.0

The young forward had a quiet AFC Cup debut, not really being able to impose himself in the game or get at the end of chances.

Suhail Bhat – 6.5

Bhat didn’t really get any chances to convert, but tried his best to work hard and use his physicality to trouble Maziya. Made a few nice darting forward runs, and saw a late long-ranger saved.

Substitutes

Mohammad Fardin – 6.0

Fardin added a bit more energy in the frontline after coming on, but couldn’t really do much in the final third.

Syed Zahid – N/R

Added a bit more physicality towards the end.
