In a remarkable turn of events, Odisha FC secured a remarkable 1-0 victory over Bashundhara Kings in their most recent AFC Cup match held at the renowned Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. This momentous win has propelled the Juggernauts to become the sole Indian team to advance to the knockout stage of the tournament, the Inter-zone playoff semi-finals.
The press conference was graced by the presence of Odisha FC’s head coach, Sergio Lobera, alongside the goal-scorer of the match, Mourtada Fall. Excerpts are below:
About the win
Sergio Lobera appeared highly enthusiastic about the victory as he stated, “It is a significant accomplishment. Today, we have created a milestone in the club’s history. This achievement is the result of the extensive effort put forth by the club, its staff, the players, and our loyal supporters. We take great pride in representing our club and India on this platform and attaining such triumph.”
Mourtada Fall added,“The game we just witnessed holds great significance. We had eagerly awaited this moment, but we had also nurtured a deep belief in its realization. From the very first minute of the tournament, it seemed highly unlikely that we would achieve such a remarkable position. However, under the guidance of our esteemed manager, we worked diligently towards this goal.”
Team effort yielded the result – Sergio Lobera
When asked about the team’s performance against Bashundhara Kings, Sergio Lobera replied, “For our team, the task posed a greater challenge as locating spaces in the adversary’s half proved to be more laborious. Undoubtedly, our opponents possess a formidable array of players skilled in orchestrating counter-attacks, affording them occasional opportunities to create scoring chances. However, I firmly believe that my players adeptly handled the circumstances with great poise and efficiency.”
Mourtada’s unique celebration
Mourtada did a unique celebration after scoring the goal and later stated in the press conference that it was dedicated to his twin babies who were born a few days before. “The celebration was for my twins. I had twin babies days before, because of which I was off from a couple of matches. This goal is a gift for them,” Mourtada stated.
