I-League 2023-24: Team of the Week for GW 8

Foreigners showed exceptional performance in Gameweek 8.

With only four weeks remaining in the 2023-24 I-League season, both players and teams are exhibiting heightened levels of performance and determination with each successive match. Every participant is striving to make the best possible impression on the given day, in order to achieve optimal results.

If we look at the points table, Mohammedan SC maintains its leading position with a total of 19 points from seven matches. Following closely behind is Sreenidi Deccan, who has exhibited exceptional performance and capitalized on every match, accumulating 16 points from the eight matches they have participated in. 

In this article, we will notice the players who have made it to the team of the week after the completion of 8th week of play. 

GK – Bishal Lama (Shillong Lajong)

Bishal played a crucial role in securing a draw against Rajasthan United FC in their previous game. He demonstrated agility in his movements and effectively prevented the opposition from scoring a second goal by adeptly collecting the ball. 

RB – Lalbiakzuala (Rajasthan United FC)

The player from Mizoram, has been consistently demonstrating his value in the defensive line with exceptional tackles and precise clearances. In the previous match, his clearances were executed with such finesse that they also contributed to the team’s ball control

CB – Nidhin Krishna (Gokulam Kerala)

Although Nidhin received a yellow card, it did not deter the defender from displaying an aggressive style of play and executing well-timed tackles to prevent the opposition from gaining an advantage.

CB – Peter Hartley (Inter Kashi)

Hartley has emerged as the focal point of attention within the Inter Kashi team over the course of the season. The seasoned player has been utilizing his wealth of experience to aid his team in achieving noteworthy results in their inaugural season.

LB – Daniel Goncalves (Shillong Lajong)

Goncalves has emerged as one of the most exceptional players for Shillong Lajong in the ongoing season. Once again, he demonstrated his immense value by netting a goal for his team during the 90+6th minute of play, inevitably transforming a seemingly destined defeat into a well-deserved draw.

RM – Martin Chaves (Churchill Brothers)

Martin managed to score a goal in the previous game for Churchill Brothers against Delhi FC, apart from this achievement, he has consistently contributed to the team in every match as a midfielder. His timely runs to create opportunities have been instrumental in the team’s success.

CM – Noufal PN (Gokulam Kerala)

Noufal achieved a breakthrough in the match’s 35th minute by skillfully striking the ball with his left foot, outsmarting the goalkeeper and securing a crucial lead for his team.

AM – Jordan Lamela Garrido (Inter Kashi)

Jordan not only demonstrated exceptional ball control and possession in the midfield but also displayed remarkable goal-scoring prowess by netting two consecutive goals during the match, which not only sustained the team’s momentum but also helped them to emerge victorious at the end.

CM – Mirjalol Kasimov (Mohammedan SC)

Kasimov maintained control over the left flank of the team throughout the match, and he was the one who successfully scored the first goal for his side in the 37th minute. His contribution helped his team secure a lead by the end of the first half. 

LM – Sergio Barboza (Delhi FC)

Barboza scored a crucial goal for his team when they were facing a one-goal deficit. Eventually, they secured victory thanks to an own goal by Ponif Vaz. Nonetheless, Barboza’s goal significantly boosted the morale of his team.

ST – Jackichand Singh (Inter Kashi)

The resurgence of Jackichand Singh has been a remarkable highlight of the season. Not only is he consistently appearing on the field for every match, but he is also making valuable contributions in various aspects of the game, including scoring goals.
