Ratings: Mishra, El Khayati & co. power Mumbai City FC to dominating win over Bengaluru FC

In a riveting ISL 2023-24 encounter, Mumbai City FC triumphed over Bengaluru FC in a stellar away performance. The Islanders displayed unwavering strength, dominating the match against the struggling Bengaluru side.

Noteworthy contributions came from El Khayati, Akash Mishra, Jorge Pereyra Diaz, and Chhangte who showcased their prowess as goal-scorers. The trio’s stellar performance played a pivotal role in securing a decisive victory for Mumbai City FC, leaving an indelible mark on the thrilling clash.

Here are the player ratings for the game

Gurpreet Singh Sandhu: 6.0

Really not Gurpreet’s day under the sticks as he had to concede four goals. In the second half of the game, he was under a lot of strain, particularly when the Islanders adopted a persistent aggressive tactic.

Aleksandar Jovanovic: 6.0

Jovanovic committed several unnecessary tackles and took his time regaining control of the game. Could have performed better, particularly in regard to Mumbai City FC’s second goal. 

Slavko Damjanovic: 6.5

Damjanovic had a notable start to the game, putting all of his efforts at the defensive end of the ball. He won a couple half-chances against Stewart and Pereyra Diaz in the backline.

Harsh Patre: 6.5

When it came to keeping the ball in the middle, Harsh was remarkable. Read the game well and kept his cool but was taken off at half time.

Roshan Naorem Singh: 7.5

Made some excellent runs on his own as well and and performed effectively on both ends of the turf. Roshan was the best of the lot in the midfield for the Blues.

Suresh Wangjam Singh: 7.0

Suresh was a bit sloppy at start, but he improved as the game progressed. Despite a few misplaced passes, he was able to regain possession in the middle.

Javi Hernandez: 6.5

Got the ball into places that looked promising, but was outplayed in the final third by the Mumbai City FC’s defenders.

SivaSakthi: 6.5

SivaSakthi found it difficult to pass the ball quickly and was regularly outmanoeuvred by the Mumbai City FC defenders. He worked relentlessly to get his channel up and running.

Robin Yadav: 6.5

In the first half, he played effectively against Akash Mishra, denying him much space on the left channel. He even created a few opportunities toward the halfway mark and tried to get along well with his teammates.

Curtis Main: 6.0

Had a respectable game until his substitution. He delivered a number of passes in the up front as well as being involved in goal scoring chances. Could have performed better.

Sunil Chhetri: 6.0

Put out a strong all-around striker effort, but he was unable to find the back of the net.  

Substitutes

Keziah Veendorp: 6.0

Made a couple spectacular runs and gave the Bengaluru squad a boost, but he was unable to find them a goal.

Monirul Molla: 6.5 

Monirul was particularly active on the right flank and made a concentrated attempt to restrict MCFC’s movement down that side, in addition to providing offensive endurance.

Rohit Kumar: 6.0

Looked positive after coming on. Rolled the ball forward, changed dynamics but was not able to create anything big.

Rohit Danu: 5.0

Didn’t make any kind of contribution to the game after entering. 

Shivaldo Singh: 6.5

After coming on in the second half, Shivaldo created some decent chances. The score, however, stayed unchanged.

Mumbai City FC Ratings (By Atawaris Warsi)

Phurba Lachenpa – 8.5

The Islanders’ goalkeeper pulled off some excellent saves throughout the match. In the opening minutes of the game, the shot stopper saved Mumbai on several occasions. Denied Sunil Chhetri in the first half too.

Akash Mishra – 8

Akash was quite active on the left flank. He moved the ball quite brilliantly on the wide channels. He also scored the second for Mumbai City FC on a rebound corner.

Rostyn Griffiths – 6.5

Blocked numerous shots from the Bengaluru attackers and displayed a strong presence in the back. 

Mehtab Singh – 6

Partnered well with Rostyn Griffiths. He cleared several attacking balls, intercepted few passes and also performed well in the air. 

Rahul Bheke – 6.5

The captain displayed an exceptional performance. He was strong and led the team by example. 

Vinit Rai – 6

A good example in the midfield for Mumbai City FC. Attacked and defended well throughout the match. 

Apuia – 6.5

Strong and much more improved performance. 

Vikram Partap Singh – 6

Disturbed the Bengaluru defenders on the flanks. His runs were perfectly timed. 

Greg Stewart – 7.5

Another magnificent performance by the Islanders’ attacking midfielder. An assist to El Khayati to open the scoring for Mumbai, won the penalty for Mumbai, and then continuously streaming the ball inside highlighted his gameplay. 

El Khayati – 8.5

The Dutch player finished off the assist from Stewart and opened the account for Mumbai City FC. He was also quite active throughout the game.

Jorge Pereyra Diaz – 7

He scored the third goal for the Islanders from the penalty spot. Also gave the attacking midfielders El Khayati and Greg Stewart the space to create and finish off chances. Holded the Bengaluru defenders strongly and his performance was commendable. 

Substitutes

Tiri – 6

Gave more defensive vitality to Mumbai City FC. 

Chhangte – 7.5

Scored the fourth goal for The Islanders in the second half from the penalty spot. His blistering pace troubled the Bengaluru defenders. 

Gurkirat Singh – 6

Gave the midfield presence to the Islanders. 

Jayesh Rane – N/A
