Closely fought encounters were observed in this gameweek.

Gameweek 9 of the 2023-24 Indian Super League (ISL) season came up with a few major surprises. Ten teams took to the field in five matches and produced some mind blowing performances.

Only one out of the five games resulted in a victory while the other four games ended in a draw. It was a week full of shocking moves and news both on and off the pitch. On that note, let us take a look at the talking points from the week gone by.

Jamshedpur FC ended their four match losing streak with an incredible comeback draw against Chennaiyin FC at home. The Red Miners showed good signs in bits and pieces, but were just not able to get points on the board.

But they put up a strong performance against Chennaiyin FC on their home soil and pulled off a motivating result. They were losing 2-0 in the first half before Laldinpuia pulled one back late in the first half and Daniel Chima Chukwu scored a late equaliser in the 90th minute and earned a crucial point for his side.

Simon Grayson, Bengaluru FC parts ways

English manager Simon Grayson has now become the first manager to be sacked this season. Grayson’s departure was announced by the club following a humiliating 0-4 defeat to Mumbai City FC at home.

Bengaluru FC were just performing up to the mark and struggled at all fronts under Simon Grayson. A series of bad and unsatisfactory performances by the Blues led to the departure of the man who led Bengaluru FC to three finals last season. His replacement has not been announced yet.

Mohun Bagan Super Giant dropped their first points of the season after they somehow managed to hold Odisha FC to a 2-2 draw at the Salt Lake Stadium. The Mariners came into the game after winning five out of five games and were determined to maintain their record.

But, Sergio Lobera’s Odisha FC had other plans. The Kalinga Warriors scored two quick goals in the first half and put the home side on the back foot. However, Armando Sadiku’s second half heroics ensured that the Mariners remained undefeated this season.
