Mohun Bagan remain the only club in the 2023-24 ISL that has not dropped a point.

Hyderabad FC and Mohun Bagan Super Giant will fight it out for three points in the upcoming Indian Super League contest at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneshwar on 2 December 2023. Both clubs boast of strong track records in the league but their present situation differs vastly heading into the game.

Where Hyderabad FC is yet to win its first game of the 2023-24 season, Mohun Bagan has won all of its four matches in the ISL. Having a 100% record in the league makes the Mariners favourites ahead of the fixture, however, their AFC Cup form has been underwhelming and HFC may want to take pointers from their opponents’ performance in the continental competition.

There is a lot on the line and the past results from this fixture suggest that it is going to be a feisty encounter. Here is what to expect from Hyderabad FC vs Mohun Bagan Super Giant fixture in the ISL 2023-24 on Saturday:

The Stakes

Hyderabad FC

Hyderabad FC is running out of time and staring at a real possibility of missing out on the playoffs if the current run of results does not improve. The winners of the 2021-22 ISL are yet to secure a win in the ongoing campaign after drawing three and losing four of their seven matches.

The departure of Manolo Marquez, who is evolving FC Goa into a league contender, has hurt HFC quite hard. The Nizams are struggling to replicate the performances of the past and the going gets tougher for the club as it prepares to face heavyweights MBSG.

Mohun Bagan Super Giant

Mohun Bagan has faced elimination from the 2023-24 AFC Cup group stages but their ISL form has been remarkable. The Mariners have won all of their four matches in the competition, delivering dominant performances in the process. Juan Ferrando’s men are favourites to win the upcoming game against Hyderabad FC and stay hot on the heels of league leaders.

Team News

Mohd Rafi is unlikely to feature due to an injury picked up in the previous game against Kerala Blasters FC. Mohun Bagan Super Giant will miss the services of Manvir Singh due to injury.

Player to Watch

Mohammad Yasir (Hyderabad FC)

Hyderabad FC has struggled for goals this season, which is why they are yet to win a single game. However, Mohammad Yasir has been the silver lining for the side whose performances have been consistent. The attacking midfielder has scored one of HFC’s four goals in seven matches and created nine scoring chances, the second most for the outfit.

Sahal Abdul Samad (Mohun Bagan Super Giant)

Sahal Abdul Samad has three assists in the 2023-24 Indian Super League, second only to Adrian Luna and Rafael Crivellaro who have four. Despite playing only four matches, Sahal ranks high in goal contributions due to his quality in the final third. He shines bright in the No.10 role and with players like Jason Cummings leading the line who relish good service, one can expect Sahal to add more goal contributions to his tally.
