Mohun Bagan boss Juan Ferrando shared his plans for the upcoming Kalinga Super Cup.
In a closely contested match, Kerala Blasters FC emerged victorious, defeating Mohun Bagan 1-0 at the Salt Lake Stadium on Thursday.
Dimitrios Diamantakos scored the only goal of the match, securing an early lead for Kerala in the ninth minute, ultimately leading them to victory. With the win, Kerala Blasters moved to the top of the points table with 26 points from 12 matches. As a result of this defeat, Mohun Bagan remain at the fifth position with 19 points from 10 matches.
The post-match press conference was attended by head coach Juan Ferrando, who diligently addressed each query posed to him.
Challenge for the team
It’s evident that Mohun Bagan are playing without some of their key players. When asked about this, Juan Ferrando replied, “The matter at hand is the consecutive victory of matches, specifically three or four. This accomplishment appears to be within reach for anyone, as everyone is capable of achieving it. Consequently, everyone emerges victorious, making it a seemingly easy feat. However, the current situation presents a considerable challenge. It is a difficult period, and it is not an opportune time to definitively assess the performance. It is easier to judge positively when everything is favorable.”
“Conversely, during challenging times, it becomes difficult. Therefore, I believe it is not the appropriate moment to evaluate the performance of all the players. I reiterate, each individual endeavors to motivate others and perform to the best of their abilities, which is of utmost significance,” he added.
Plan for Super Cup
When asked about the upcoming tournament, the Kalinga Super Cup, Juan Ferrando stated, “The intended strategy for the Super Cup is to allow sufficient time for the players to recuperate. The primary focus lies in determining the composition of the squad. Due to Sahal’s absence, uncertainty surrounds the inclusion of certain individuals in January or February.”
“Presently, articulating a clear plan is challenging. It is hoped that as the team engages in training sessions. The plan will take shape based on the readiness of the players. The plan is contingent upon the players’ fitness,” he concluded.
