Mumbai City FC set to appoint Petr Kratky as new head coach

Petr Kratky is waiting for his visa to arrive in India.
A few weeks have passed since Des Buckingham’s departure from Mumbai City. But no official announcements were made by the club regarding their new head coach. Anthony Fernandes, who assisted Buckingham, was in-charge of the side for the AFC Champions League games against Nassaji Mazandaran and Navbahor. Even when they take the field against Bengaluru FC this week, Fernandes will be guiding the squad on the touchline.
But as per latest developments and sources close to Khel Now, Mumbai City are on the verge of hiring their new head coach. A source informed Khel Now this morning, “Petr Kratky, who is currently the assistant manager at Melbourne City is set to become the new head coach for Mumbai City.”
Being a part of the City Football Group, buying players or coaching staff from the sister clubs across the globe is a common ritual for the clubs under the umbrella of CFG.
Who is Petr Kratky?
A full-back during his playing days, Petr Kratky retired from the game in 2015. He has been associated with Melbourne City since 2017. Initially he was looking after the youth sides at the CFG outfit in Australia. But after Des Buckingham, who was the then assistant manager at Melbourne City, left the club to join Mumbai City, Kratky was promoted to the assistant role.
During his tenure as the assistant manager, he worked closely with Patrick Kisnorbo (someone with whom even Buckingham worked), Radio Vidosic and Aurelio Vidmar.
What next for Mumbai City?
A change at the helm doesn’t seem to be much of a problem for the Islanders. Yes, the managerial styles of Buckingham and Kratky might be different, but the philosophy throughout all the clubs associated to CFG is the same.
Players will certainly need some time to adapt to the new dynamics and the same goes for Petr Kratky as well, but under the new boss Mumbai City are expected to continue their fine run of form in the Indian Super League 2023-24.
