Three Indian players were on the scoresheet for Mumbai City in this encounter.

In a captivating encounter at the Mumbai Football Arena, Mumbai City FC defeated Chennaiyin FC with a compelling 3-0 scoreline in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24 season. Lallianzuala Chhangte, leading the Islanders’ attack, redeemed himself by netting the opening goal after a missed penalty in the first half.

Vikram Partap Singh, on the other hand, was vital in doubling the score as he neted the second goal to give his side a two-goal advantage. Lastly, Gurkirat Singh had a terrific night, getting his first ISL goal as he scored the third goal for Petr Kratky’s Mumbai City FC in this encounter.

Here are the player ratings for the game.

Mumbai City FC (By Atawaris Warsi)

Phurba Lachenpa – 7.5

Saved numerous shots, especially in the first half. Lachenpa clearly denied Jordan Murray a golden opportunity in the opening 30 minutes.

Rahul Bheke – 7

Was strong and resilient in defence. Partnered well with Tiri.

Valpuia – 7

Gave the defensive edge to the team when Chhangte was surging forward.

Tiri – 7.5

A strong performance by the team’s centre-back who blocked several Chennaiyin FC shots. He commanded well too!

Mehtab Singh – 8

A resounding performance by Mehtab as he perfectly transitioned between attack and defence. He was too tough to get past.

Vikram Partap Singh – 7

Covered the entire left flank, took several shots and was equally commendable in helping the team’s backline. He was also the one to score from the spot and give Mumbai City a two-goal cushion.

Yoell van Nieff – 7

Connected the Islanders’ defence and attack brilliantly. Saw two shots kiss the framework.

Apuia – 7

Partnered well with van Nieff. Looked more lively in the second half though.

El Khayati – 8

If there’s another player who deserves the same recognition as Chhangte, then it’s got to be the Dutchman. Played the perfect attacking midfielder role for Mumbai City.

Lallianzuala Chhangte – 8

The hero for the Islanders. Redeemed himself in the second half to score the goal after missing the penalty in the first.

Jorge Pereyra Diaz – 7

Had an opportunity in the opening minutes where his shot hit the post. Slipped during another opportunity in the second half.

Substitutes

Gurkirat Singh – 7.5

A perfect substitution in the second half. His positioning, physicality and timely runs were unstoppable. That third Mumbai City goal scored by him was magnificent!

Jayesh Rane – 7.5

Protected the Islanders’ midfield in the second half. Also tried his luck from outside the box on several occasions, but couldn’t get on the scoresheet.

Chennaiyin FC (By Analoy Majumder)

Debjit Majumder – 6.5

Another disappointing day at office for the goalie. Made some routine saves but was unable to thwart any goal scored by the Mumbai City attackers.

Sarthak Golui – 7

The defender produced key crucial blocks in front of goal and also attempted a goal-line save within the first quarter to keep the scoreline at level. Even in the second half, he maintained good shape and won many tackles against the MCFC attackers. Was booked for a challenge in the first half and lucky to not get sent off!

Ryan Edwards – 7

Edwards had a significant impact on the aerial duels. He played really well, both offensively and defensively, and gave his side good momentum throughout.

Lazar Cirkovic – 6.5

He appeared a bit sloppy on a few occasions, but gradually, he proved himself dependable in defence. His efforts played a key role in reducing the offensive menace posed by Mumbai City FC.

Bikash Yumnam – 6.5

Bikash made a couple of good runs with the ball and was firm in the backline. Gave away a penalty which Chhangte failed to convert.

Jiteshwor Singh – 6.5

Aided the squad in defence but didn’t play a big part in the attack. Failed to live up to the expectations despite trying to create certain positive movements.

Ayush Adhikari – 6.5

Helped the defence by switching plays when necessary, but was not up to the mark attacking wise.

Rafael Crivellaro – 7.5

Demonstrated brilliance yet again in the midfield, showcasing exceptional passing skills. Was engaged in numerous offensive situations and came close to finding the net, only to see the ball glide past the goalkeeper.

Ninthoi Meetei – 6.5

Ninthoi played effectively, delivering clever clearances to keep the defence secure while also trying to move the ball towards the goal.

Rahim Ali – 6.5

Lacked effectiveness and squandered several excellent passing possibilities that could have offered the game a new dimension.

Jordan Murray – 7

In the first half, he came close to scoring a few times, but the intensity waned as the game progressed. However, he demonstrated good ball control in the attacking third, but was unable to secure any positive conversions for his team.

Substitutes

Connor Shields – 6.5

Connor Shields stepped in to replace the tired Crivellaro in the 67th minute. He tried to keep the momentum going, but his influence on the game was little.

Vincy Barretto – 6.5

After coming on, he appeared to be in adept spirits, but his efforts did not produce the anticipated result.

Alexander Romario Jesuraj – 6.5

Romario, upon his arrival, brought stability and made numerous efforts, but all went in vain.

Cristian Battocchio – N/A

Irfan Yadwad – N/A
