Scott Cooper heaped praise upon the work Owen Coyle did at Jamshedpur FC!
Jamshedpur FC will hope to turn their fortunes around when they host the two-time Indian Super League (ISL) champions Chennaiyin FC at home on Thursday. The Men of Steel have had a hard time in the last few weeks.
They have lost four games back-to-back and currently find themselves in the bottom half of the table. Ahead of the game, Jamshedpur FC’s head coach Scott Cooper addressed the media and shared his thoughts.
Pressure
When asked about his thoughts on the building pressure on his team due to the lack of positive results, the head coach said, “There is always pressure in football. You are always privileged to be in a situation like this. Any type of pressure in football should be a privilege. There is no denying the fact of losing four in a row. It’s frustrating.”
He also added that his team needs to change its dynamics in the final third.
“We did a lot of things well and a few things poorly. We always believed in the philosophy and should stay the same but we need to change the dynamics in the attacking third,” he asserted.
Thoughts on Owen Coyle
Sharing his thoughts on former Jamshedpur FC manager and current Chennaiyin FC manager Owen Coyle, Scott Cooper said that Owen Coyle’s work at Jamshedpur FC should be respected.
“Owen has a big background as a player and as a coach, so you have to respect that. But for Owen Coyle, you have to just look at some of his foundation, the work he did at Jamshedpur.”
He also mentioned, “He won the Shield here and that’s something that will always be in the history books of Jamshedpur FC and deserves ultimate respect for someone who can do that. His work here should be remembered, respected, and appreciated.”
Good brand of football
Scott Cooper also mentioned the importance of playing a good brand of football. He said that people watch his team play because they play a good brand of football.
“We have to remember football comprises two things: entertainment and results. I think many people, if they see us on TV, will not change the channel, they’ll watch the game because they see we as a team are good in possession and we press the other team.”
Cooper also added that there won’t be any changes to his philosophy, but the team needs to win games as well.
“We haven’t changed anything and we won’t change who we are as long as I’m here, we will stay the same way. At the same time, we need to win games. We want to keep the ball, we want to press, and we want people to enjoy it. At the same time, we need to win games,” he stated.
Message for the fans
Sharing a message for Jamshedpur FC’s fans, Cooper said, “I appreciate the support. I think our fans can count on us. They can be proud of the way we play football. That’s the way to play in modern football. We just need to score the goals and collect the points now. At least we have an identifiable philosophy in the way we play football.
“So we just need to adapt to the critical part of the goals and collect points now. But I appreciate the fans’ support,” he signed off.
