Family members of Mohun Bagan’s 1911 IFA Shield winning team have also been invited to the event.

Mohun Bagan will be paying the ultimate tribute to their 1911 IFA Shield winning team by unveiling a brand new Sculpture figure of the final-winning team on Thursday, 21 December. The club will be debuting this sculpture in their club ground in Maidan, Kolkata.

The sculpture will be a brand new, modernized re-imagination of the XI iconic players sitting with the IFA Shield trophy in front of them after winning the 1911 title. The Mariners had defeated the East Yorkshire Regiment to become the first-ever Indian team to win an IFA Shield title and defied the odds spectacularly against the British Raj.

As a tribute to that historic achievement, the Kolkata heavyweights have held their ‘Mohun Bagan Day’ ceremony on 29 July every year. But it looks like the club is now taking a step forward into inscribing their iconic team into the Mohun Bagan ground forever.

Mohun Bagan’s new sculpture will feature every single one of the 11 players who started and featured in their win over East Yorkshire Regiment. This includes the likes of captain Shibdas Bhaduri accompanied by the likes of Abhilash Ghosh, Bhuti Sukul, Bijaydas Bhaduri, Hiralal Mukherjee, Manmohan Mukherjee, Rajendra Sengupta, Sudhir Chatterjee, Srishchandra ‘Habul’ Sarkar, Jatindranath ‘Kanu’ Roy and Nilmadhab Bhattacharya.

The inauguration of the sculpture will be open to all supporters and there will be some prominent individuals present at the ground to help with the procedure too. This includes former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly as well as Mohun Bagan legends like Shyam Thapa, Subrata Bhattacharya and Goutam Sarkar.

Moreover, family members of the players from the 1911 IFA Shield winning team have also been invited to be a part of this memorable event. The Mariners’ management are yet to give out any details on the shape or general outlook of the sculpture, but they have been teasing something special that fans can get a first look at on December 21.
