It is already known who will compete in the 15th CAF Women’s AFCON.

Following the last round of qualifications on Tuesday, December 5, the final list of competitors was officially announced on December 6.

Twelve teams will compete to win the trophy. Here is everything you need to know, including the notable absence of Cameroon, the current champions South Africa, nine-time winners Nigeria, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, who made a surprise 25-year comeback.

CAF Women’s AFCON 2024 Participants:

– Algeria

– Ghana

– Mali

– Morocco (host)

– Nigeria

– Senegal

– South Africa (Reining champions)

– Tanzania

– The Democratic Republic of Congo

The next WAFCON’s dates are still pending announcement. Like previous editions of WAFCON, it will take place in Morocco in 2024.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is in charge of organising the competition for the continent’s women’s national teams.

Seven of the twelve qualifying teams competed in the prior tournament. Cameroon and Cote d’Ivoire are two of the well-known nations that were excluded from the Women’s AFCON 2024.

In the preliminary round, Cameroon was defeated. For almost three decades, the Indomitable Lionesses had not missed a single Women’s AFCON. Ivory Coast was denied the chance to participate in the continental match as well. The group had already missed the competition in 2022.

The teams to keep an eye on are South Africa, Morocco, and Nigeria, who advanced to the FIFA Women’s World Cup round of 16.

Nigeria has won nine times, and South Africa is the current champion. Ghana, a three-time finalist, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, a bronze medallist, returned victorious to the competition.

The Leopards eliminated two-time champion Equatorial Guinea with a 2-1 victory following a tie between the two sides in the opening round.

Twelve teams competed in the competition for the first time in the 2022 edition; up until then, only eight teams did. It also became known as the edition that shattered records for audience size and attendance.
