Cristiano Ronaldo is the highest goalscorer in the Saudi Pro League

On Monday (December 11), supporters responded to Cristiano Ronaldo, the captain of Al Nassr, mentioning his 50th goal for both club and nation in 2023. The historic goal came during Al-Alami’s 5-2 victory over Al-Shabab in the King Cup of Champions quarterfinal.

The visitors took the lead in the 17th minute thanks to Seko Fofana, and seven minutes later Carlos equalised the score. Then, Luis Castro’s side took over the proceedings.

At the half, goals from Sadio Mane (28′) and Abdulrahman Ghareeb (45+4′) had put the score 3-1. In the 74th minute, Ronaldo scored his 50th goal of the year. In the ninetieth minute, Mohammed Maran netted in the sixth minute of extra time to give Al-Alami a three-goal advantage again after Hattan Bahebri gave Al-Shabab a response.

When many thought Ronaldo, 38, was past his prime, fans went crazy when he scored 50 goals this year. In the ensuing half, the former Manchester United and Real Madrid forward scored his team’s fourth goal.

His season total now stands at 26 goals, 16 of which came from 15 Saudi Pro League games.

Three days prior, Cristiano Ronaldo participated in his 1,200th career professional match, winning 4-1 against Al-Riyadh. In that match, he received an assist and tallied one goal.

With the victory, Al Nassr advanced to the King’s Cup semifinal for the second consecutive year. After losing to Al-Wehda in the semifinals of the previous term, they will be trying to improve this season. Ronaldo has scored ten goals for Portugal and forty for the Saudi Pro League team out of his fifty goals this season.

Until the final season of 2023, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner will play at least three times. The Saudi Pro League matchup between him and Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq takes place on Friday, December 22.
