Lyon are at bottom of the table at the moment

Aubameyang’s return to the scoring line last week has made Marseille look more dangerous and they have been slowly fighting back into the season. Marseille won the Europa League match against Ajax last week and won the league match against Rennes. Their current point-tally is 9th with four wins, five draws and four defeats.

While Lyon have always been considered a contender for Champions League or Europa League spots, their decline in recent years has been disastrous. Despite having some of the most exciting talents in the world in their squad, Lyon have managed to produce a performance nobody could have imagined. They are currently bottom of the table with just one win in 13 games. This illustrious club is now in the relegation battle and will be hoping at least to survive this year.

Kick-Off:

Thursday, 7 December 2023 at (1:30 AM IST)

Location: Stade Orange, Marseille

Form:

Marseille (in all competitions): W-L-D-W-W

Lyon (in all competitions): L-D-W-L-L

Player to Watch

Maxence Caqueret (Lyon)

In spite of Lyon’s terrible season, Maxence Caqueret has been an ever-present player. In spite of not having much support from anyone else, Caqueret has been a rock-solid midfielder for them. His biggest strength is his hard work, but his distribution needs to be improved. In this match, he will be a crucial player for Lyon.

Aubameyang (Marseille)

The last two matches have seen Aubameyang look in his old groove after looking off touch for most of this season. Marseille has been lacking a leader upfront and Aubameyang’s return to form can give them that needed boost. He scored an acrobatic hat trick against Ajax last week followed by a goal against Rennes.

Match Facts

  • Marseille are unbeaten in last 10 home matches
