Morocco annonunce 55-players provisional squad for AFCON 2023

Morocco were knocked out in the quarterfinals of AFCON 2021

Morocco National Football Team head coach Walid Regragiui has announced a provisional 55-man squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations 2023 (AFCON 2023).

Ivory Coast will host the tournament which is set to begin on 13 January 2023. Morocco qualified as the Group K winners and are one of the favourites to become the Kings of Africa. They have a squad of talented players featuring some from top European clubs.

Abdelmouniam Boutouil, a top defender in Africa has been omitted from the provisional squad. Regragui has also left out four players who helped Morocco reach the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

Zakaria Abu Khalal and Abdul Hamid Al-Sabiri are out due to injury. At the same time, goalkeeper, Reda El Taknaouti and Burnley winger, Anas Al-Zarouri missed out due to a lack of form. These players will miss the tournament because only players on the preliminary list will be eligible to replace any of the final 27 squad members.

Midfielders: Sofyan Amrabat, Azzeddine Ounahi, Amine Harit, Yahya Jabrane, Bilal El Khannouss, Amir Richardson, Benjamin Bouchaouari, Selim Amallah, Yassine Kechta, Oussama El Azzouzi, Ilias Chair, Youssef Maleh, Neil Yoni El Aaynaoui.
