Sam Allison will be refereeing Luton vs Sheffield United
After 15 years, referee Sam Allison is poised to create Premier League history as the first Black official.
Allison will officiate Sheffield United’s match against Luton Town on Boxing Day at Bramall Lane, fulfilling PGMOL chief Howard Webb’s promise to diversify top-tier refereeing throughout the summer.
The 42-year-old remained the initial Black referee in among the top four English divisions since Uriah Rennie in 2008, and he remained the only one till three years ago.
This occurs at a time when there are still very few non-white referees in England, out of approximately 300 total officials.
And with Allison’s latest scheduling, he joins Rennie as the only other Black referee to oversee a Premier League game.
A new declaration was released by BAMRef, the Black, Asian, and Mixed Heritage officiating group:

We welcome this appointment. It is a further step in the right direction towards refereeing reflecting society and the playing contingent within football.
“It is also the culmination of years of hard work by BAMRef members. We hope to work with Howard Webb to identify and progress more black officials to the top flight.”
besides the fact that the PGMOL made history with Allison’s being appointed, but Rebecca Welch will also be the first female official to officiate a Premier League match.
Welch is going to take over the Prem game between Burnley and Fulham at Craven Cottage on December 23.In January, the 40-year-old made history by being the first female referee of a men’s championship match.
In November, she achieved another first by becoming the first female referee in Premier League history.
