Cristiano Ronaldo created plenty of records before moving to Saudi Arabia

Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the greatest players ever to grace the football game. In a more than two-decades-long career, the Portuguese superstar has broken numerous records to claim his place among the game’s legends. With over 850 career goals and 34 major trophies, Ronaldo has helped set the bar ridiculously high, and it is unlikely that any new forward could come close to matching his records for a very long time.

The first man to win the UEFA Champions League on five occasions, Ronaldo has also made more competition appearances and scored more goals than any other player. Still, those records are barely the tip of the iceberg. Here we look at the UEFA records of Cristiano Ronaldo:

Ronaldo’s European International Records

Most EURO final tournaments: 5

Ronaldo stands as the only player to have scored in multiple EURO tournaments three times or more. His goal-scoring prowess has been evident in EURO 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020, showcasing his ability to shine on the biggest stage consistently.

Most EURO finals goals: 14

Ronaldo made his mark on the EURO stage during his debut in 2004, scoring against Greece. By the end of UEFA EURO 2016, he had equalled Michel Platini’s record of nine goals. However, with an additional five goals at UEFA EURO 2020, Ronaldo now stands alone as the all-time top scorer in EURO history with 14 goals.

Most EURO goals (including qualifiers): 55

Ronaldo’s goal-scoring extends beyond the final tournaments. His incredible haul of 55 goals in EURO qualifying and finals combined is more than the next two players, Zlatan Ibrahimović and Robbie Keane, combined.

Most EURO final tournament appearances: 25

Ronaldo’s commitment to the Portuguese national team is impressive with a record of 25 finals appearances, surpassing teammates Joao Moutinho and Pepe. Here are some more records of Portuguese legend in European International:

  • Most EURO final tournaments scored in 5 (2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020)
  • The only player to score three goals at multiple EUROs: 2012, 2016, and 2020
  • Most EURO appearances (including qualifiers): 68

Ronaldo’s club/individual records

Most UEFA club competition appearances: 197 (Sporting CP, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus)

Cristiano Ronaldo is arguably the most successful player in European Cup/UEFA Champions League history. The Portuguese goal machine has dominated the league ever since he started playing in it. His consistency has even urged fans to playfully rename UCL as the UEFA Cristiano Ronaldo League.

Most UEFA club competition goals: 145

Cristiano Ronaldo has played for some of the most respected teams in Europe. He started at Manchester United, became a goal machine at Real Madrid, and eventually rocked Italian football with Juventus. He has performed very well at the UEFA competitions for every club he played.

Most UEFA Champions League goals: 140

Cristiano Ronaldo finds himself at the top of the UCL goalscoring charts with 140 goals. He also got his nickname Mr Champions League due to his goal-scoring records. Cristiano Ronaldo has become synonymous with the Champions League.

UEFA Champions League top scorer

He’s made the competition his own with his unreal goalscoring feats, having also lifted the big ol’ ears five times in his illustrious career, four of them coming in the last decade alone. On seven different occasions he was top scorer in UCL (2007/08, 2012/13, 2013/14, 2014/15, 2015/16, 2016/17, 2017/18).
