Hyderabad FC faced a narrow-margin defeat to East Bengal.
Hyderabad FC suffered a loss in their first game of Group A in the Kalinga Super Cup 2024. Although they came back twice against the mighty Red & Gold Brigade, they couldn’t fetch a point. The equation becomes difficult for their qualification with Mohun Bagan and Sreenidi Deccan FC in their group.
Hyderabad FC head coach Thangboi Singto came to speak at the post-match press conference and said that he was impressed by the performance of his young Indian brigade.
Excerpts from the conversation:
Learning Experience
Hyderabad FC fielded an all-Indian side to give the youngsters a chance to prove their talents. They were very good with their display of football.
Thangboi Singto commented, “We have to learn, and learn fast, but again the set0pieces caused a lot of problems as Cleiton (Silva) was always a problem for us. We need to learn not to give away fouls on top of the box. We have to fight for every ball, every space in every point of the pitch.”
He also exclaimed that although he was not happy with the result, the players met his game-plan and expectations.
Future plans
Singto was asked about the upcoming fixtures in the Kalinga Super Cup and how will he move forward with his squad.
The coach said that they have to play the remaining two matches under the sun at 2 pm, which will create a problem.
Singto highlighted, “We need to rebuild and regroup and it is way too early to think about Mohun Bagan. Mohun Bagan has a great squad and it will surely get tougher for us in the Super Cup. Nevertheless, we have faith in the young lads and they will look to come back.”
He also added that the young lads need a bit more motivation as they have not got much game-time and lack confidence. Hence the Super Cup will test their skills making them better for the rest of the season.
“Mohun Bagan will be tough, but we will prepare accordingly. We just need to play well and make use of the chances,” Singto pointed out.
Chance for youngsters
When asked about his ‘all-Indian squad’ approach, Thangboi Singto elucidated that it is all about Indian football and a platform for the youngsters to show their talent and get more game-time. “We want to give them more chances and grow the Indian players. That’s how our plan is and we are taking it forward,” he concluded.
