AFCON 2023: Emilio Nsue's hat-trick against Guinea-Bissau registers first win for Equatorial Guinea

Equatorial Guinea top of their group following first win in AFCON 2023
Equatorial Guinea smashed Guinea-Bissau en route to the AFCON 2023 knockout rounds, thanks to a hat-trick from Emilio Nsue.
Nsue scored twice in the second half to complete the first Afcon treble since 2008. He opened the scoring in the first half.
Josete Miranda’s goal early in the second half gave Equatorial Guinea the lead back after Esteban Orozco’s own goal tied the score at halftime. In stoppage time, Ze Turbo scored an ensuing goal for Guinea-Bissau.
Orozco deflected the ball into the back of the net while attempting to cut away the pass for the offside Franculino Djú.
However, José Miranda scored after halftime from beyond the area, and five minutes later Nsue scored his second goal to essentially seal the victory. In the 61st, he scored from a tricky angle to secure his hat trick, but not before enduring a VAR review.
The consolation goal for Guinea Bissau was scored in injury time by substitute Zé Turbo, although he was unable to stop the team’s winless streak at the Africa Cup from reaching 11 games. The “Djurtus,” who have lost their first two games, are at the bottom of the group.
Despite being virtually empty for the match, the 60,000-seat Alassane Ouattara Stadium was anticipated to be filled for Ivory Coast’s later encounter with Nigeria. They reported that all of the tickets had been sold out. There have been issues with tickets for the opening games.

Long before the host team’s game, Abidjan was heaving with enthusiastic supporters, many of whom were flaunting the orange, white, and green flags of their nation and donning the team’s unique orange jersey.
The constant traffic jams in the city were exacerbated by the incessant sirens of emergency personnel and the frequent blows of tired traffic controllers trying in vain to break through.
After the first game’s 1-1 tie with Equatorial Guinea, Nigeria was under pressure to defeat Ivory Coast.
Furthermore, following their defeats in their first contests, Ghana and Egypt were playing at the Félix Houphouët-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan later. Both squads remained under siege.
