The Super Eagles face a tough test in AFCON 2023 group stage

The twenty-three contending nations will determine their destiny on Matchday Three of the group stage of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2023).

Ivory Coast, who finished in third place in Group A after being soundly defeated 4-0 by Equatorial Guinea, now have to wait anxiously to see if they will advance to the knockout stage.

Continental giants Cameroon and Ghana might also have to return home early, while Egypt just made it through, with an injured Mohamed Salah watching on.

The list has been revised list in which teams have advanced and who have already been eliminated, with the remaining 16 positions to be decided over the next several days.

In this edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, 24 countries are competing, divided into six groups of four.

In addition to the top two finishers from every group, four of the top third-placed teams in each group are going to get a knockout ticket because the knockout stages begin with a Round of 16, and they are one-off straight knockout matches.

If two teams are tied for the same number of points, their ranking will be decided by:

  • Points in the two tied teams’ against one another encounter
  • Goal disparity within the team
  • Total goals scored during the group drawing.
  • If both sides are unable to separate during the knockout stages, the match will proceed to 30 minutes of additional time and penalties. To decide who wins the bronze medal, the two losing semifinalists will compete in a third-place playoff.
